FAGLE RIVER REVIEW Busy Week. For this season of the year, this week has seen an unusually large num ber of outside people in Eagle River. Beginning Monday wl.en practically every resort, owner in the county was here to attend a business meeting held in their interests. J. J. Roder ick gave the use of Dreamland Thea tre for the occasion, and a picnic din ner was served by they wives, of = the aforesaid gentlemen at Masonic hall. Tuesday and Wednesday Supt. Aus tin and some of the Vilas county school ma’ams held a meeting at the court house, the ostensible excuse be ing called Teachers Examinations. - Wednesday also was the day of or ganization for the county board and consequently every town chairman was on hand. Wednesday and Thursday the 25th annual Northeast District Conven tion of Congregational churches took place. ‘A large number of visiting delegates were present, and the two days .mainly devoted to meetings of public interest. Today and tomo"rrogv, “Baby Week”’ is being featured by lecture and film under the auspices of the Eagle River Woman'’s Club. : g Underwent Operation. Mrs. A. K. Everett ' whose illness grew so alurming that she was taken to the hospital at Appleton, Satur day morning, passed a successful op eration for . appendicitis Tuesday. She was accompanied by Mrs. Geo. Elected Officers. - At a meeting of the Vilas County Agricultural Society held at the Farmers & Merchants ‘State Bank, Wednesday night the following offi cers were re-elected: . - President—Hans Hanson, ' Vice President—Stanley Korpal, * Secretary—Oscar Gunderson, W. C. Arnold was elected Treasur or to succeed N. M. Emmons owing to the advisability of having that of ficial in town at all times. S The report of last years receipts and expenditures was read showing a balance on hand of about $175. It is the aim of the society to so extend the premium list so that every farm er may have a personal interest in the fair. Messrs. Higgins, Radcliffe and Hedeen were - appointed a com mittee to ask the county board for an appropriation to assist in carrying on this highly ‘important feature of any agricultural county. . The date and duration of this years fair will be decided on later. o " Have You a Baby? If you have, you will be interested in the body charts, exhibits, and lec tures to be given at the Court House Saturday afternoon, May 12, at 3:00. Even if you have no baby, 'you may hear and see things that will be of ‘value to you some time. Dr’s. Meyer and Thorpe will talk on Baby Wel fare topics, and there will be colored charts on the same subject. Exhi bits of different steps in the care of the.young ‘child will be shown. Pamphlets on Baby Welfare will be distributed.. - ' The films furnished by the State Health Department will be exhibited at the Dreamland Theatre, Wednes day, May 16th at 3:00 and 7:30 P. M. This was planed for Friday, but due to the fact that the films were all out this week the date was changed to Wednesday. Beth of these entertain ments are absolutely free’ to the public. : ' Junior Prom. | The Junior Prom given .Friday night was a social and, financial sue cess as Eagle River High School func tions usually are. The hall was fine ly decorated in green and white, and the Antigo orchestra furnished their usual brand of ‘delightful music. A large crowd was ,k in attendance in eluding several couples from Three Lakes. \ : ; Held Special Elections. At the town of Lincoln special election held Saturday the proposi tion to bond the town for two new bridges was snowed under, although the voters signitied their willingness for the bridges. At the election held here Tuesday only three votes were cast against placing the light and water plant in charge of a commission of five to be elected at another election. H.3J. Mack of Phelps was in town yesterday. O. C. Luther entertained a brother from Piper- Ciuvy, 111., the fore part of the week. Maxwell MaGee returned Tuesday from an extended stay in a Chicago hospital. , ~ C. H. Adams and family took pos session of their new home at the end of Division street Saturday. - Thos. McGregor Jr. of Ironweod arrived Monday for a visit at the pa rental home. : Robt: Persohn is the latest to dis card horse flesh for a car. His is a Maxwell. o Mrs. Klorence Haney of Sayner was a guest of Sheriff Jackson and family over Sunday. ' Frank Cole of Winchester was the guest of his daughter, Mrs. Alfred Houg the first of the week. ’ Mrs. B. F. Strong went to Manawa Monday to visit her mother for a cou ple of weeks. Miss Winnie Menefee returned to Appleton Monday after spending a few days at home. : Ai J. DeNoyer, the Standard Oil man now delivers his product by meuns of a new Maxwell auto truck. 1. G. Blohm went to Antigo Saturday after a Ford auto truck which Mr. Blohm had pur chased for use in his well drilling. Mrs. P. Leviash returned to Mil waukee Wednesday -after a month’s scay at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. E. Frankel. ! Macquaker and son re turned Saturday from a montéls visit in Caicago. Mrs. H. A. Kinney received a shipment of 6000 strawberry plants last week. L., no doubt, was responsible for tilting barber rates upward this week. 15 cents now only goes as far as your face. Mrs. Hanson preceded them by a week and all hands are now busy getting the Han son resort ready for the entertain ment of the public. - NUMBER 50.
