C, October loth, says : uIt is reported from Yancey that a deaf mute answering the descrip tion ot Walter Bingham was seen a lew days ago in the woods by hunts men in a wild section of tho county His strange conduct excited suspi cion, when they arrested him and started to the bonne of aQMr. Ilens iey in the vicinity. The' deaf mute on the way attempted to escape but was stopped by a show of guns. Upon reaching Hensley's, alter ex amination, the mutu was allowed to depart. Soon afterwards suspicion was aroused that tho man was Wal ter Bingham, when the men started iu pHrsuit, but he escaped into the woods. A day 'or two later the same man appeared in the Pensacola section of Yancey and committed rape upon a white girl and again es caped. The men who saw him have no doubt it is Walter Bingham. He wrote rapidly and was? intelligent in conversation. He wav in a bad plight, showed tiro effects of long exposure, was heavily armed aud aid Iip came from Haywood county.
