Wilmington Messenger: The ac tual pumber of deaths in Wilmington in August was 37. The colored deaths are more than three times the number of the whites, and yet they are but fitly per cent, in excess of the whites in population. Upon a basis of 20,000 inhabitants for tbe year this is a death rate for August of 22.4 lor both races. The whites for August, deducting two drowned or killed, leaving 8, show a rate of but 12 in the 1,000 inhabitants. If Wilmington w-as a town ot 20,O0U whites the death rate would not exceed 11, for Angost is s sicklier month than several others; Thor ough sanitation is what Is needed. But this will never be, tnd there can never be thorough sanitation without a perfect sewerage arrange ment. At 22,000 inhabitants the rate for August on a basis of a year is 22, and for whites only, putting population at 0,000, it is 10.6 iu, the 1,0.00. ' : - .'
