Charlotte News : It is a misde
meanor to export from the State
any quail or j artridges, whether
dead or alive, also to take or destroy
their eggs, and the same shall .be
punished by a fine not exceeding
S"0 and imprisonment not exceed
ing thirty days. There no induce
ment now for exporting partridges
from the Slate ; but the season lor
nesting will soon be here, aud then
the egg-hunter will be on h3ud. The
penalty for robbing the nests ot par
tridges is sufficiently heavy, if en
forced, to protect the birds.

North Carolinian.
Nash aod Franklin counties are
turning their attention largely to
gold mining. The machinery is all
up at the Conyers mine and work is
being prosecuted rapidly.
The Edwards mine will be start
ed op next week. Two three-toot
veins of gold ore have been opened,
attd large returns are expected.
Work -at the Alann-Arrington gold
mines is being pushed rigbt ahead.
A new. vein has been opened which
assays $35 per ton. If this holds
out the JMann-Arrington will prove
the most profitable mine in the
Stale.
The old Portis mine, after lying
idle for some yearn, will soon be at
work again. A wealthy company
has been organized to work it, and
new machinery will be put in. This
is considered a very valuable mine.
