An exchange says that arrange ments are now in progress to have, in Hyde county, on the banks of Lake Alatamuskeet, one ot the largest rice farms in this country. The land is said to be very, fertile and lover than the lake, the water in whioh is held up as in a sort of a bowl, and so the lake water will be used for flooding the rice fields. It is purposed to put three thousand acres in rice, twice that aoreage be ing available. This North Carolina rice is very fine; in iact, that grown near Wilmington is said to be the fiuest in the world. EtfD of Bitter Fight. One oi the new arrivals at the Soldiers' Home is a man m.med Lawrence, from Wilkes county. He is wounded In a most remarkable manner. In 1862 a bullet went in his right eye and lodged at hU left Jaw. . He recovered, of. course, los ing the sight of that eye, and re entered the service. The following year he was again shot, this time the bullet entering at the left jaw and making its exit at the right eye, thu3 earaotly reversing the previous wound. Lawrence is a very cheer ful man and his doable wound has not particularly disfigured him. Save The Children. Charlotte Observer. It is quite evident that a band of robbers who make postoffioes their specialty, is operating in North Car ohna. They have been at work in this State for something like a year, and have made good hauls at various points, while being now as far as ever from detection. Mooksville was their last point of attack.
