to induce the Democrats to believe that
Wbitaker is elected to Congress. Kir

to be elected Secretary of State. Noth
ing detinitely concerning the remainder
ot the State ticket. There is a growing
impression that the Legislature will be
Democratic, but the result cannot be
positively stated for two or three days.

election returns indicate that Whitaker
(Dem.) is elected Congressman by a
nn. Ul majority. It is conceded that th

Beilin dispatch says regarding the con
dition of tbe Emperor, that symptoms
of fever are not exported befoic to-moi-row.
The Times Builin dispatch, da'ei
last evening, says the wounds in tha
Emperor's face arc already healing, and
that he is cheerful has already express
ed a w ish to leave his bed.
. Berlin, Juno 5. The Emperor slept
well during the night, and his condition
this morning is generally satisfactory.
His healthy constitution bears the shock
with wonderful strength.
The Emperor is very clieei ful, and
Lis rapid recovery is confidently ex
pected. Al the first discharge of X -beling'sguu

and iivo in the head and face, but the
principal portion of the charge was
stopped by his helmet, which is com

Saratoga, X. Y., June 5. The wife
of Jesse Hillings, of lacou Hill, was
fatally shot in the head. The shot was
tired through a window. Mrs. liilliu 's
was jealous of her husband and there
had been much trouble between them in
consequence. Recently a woman, living
over Hillings' otlice, commenced a slan
der suit against Mis. Billinos.
