July 30. -(Special.)—The advance in Liverpool this morning was sharp under the influence of American buying orders based upon the bad crop accounts from the Mississippi Valley. These accounts are almost incredible, did they not come from merchants of high standing and indicate a condi tion of the crop which would reduce the yield lie low the actual consump tion requirements unless some change for the better occurs before long. Locally the trade is loth to believe these reports and cotton has been freely sold by holders this morning upon the belief that a reaction from this sharp advance is due. t his is not at all unusual «t the commencement of an advance due to bad crop advices. The situation, is however, peculiar in that there is little if any speculative long interest, the trade being generally short of ship ments to European spinners ami do j not know whether to cover their en gagements or to wait for better crop accounts. Heavy realizing for local operators who look for a reaction from this advance caused the market to close barely steady at 5 to 6 points ad vance from yesterday. This reaction will, it is thought, bring a lower Liverpool market to-morrow, though the evidence of crop damage is cumu lative and now not at all uncertain. The local feeling is bearish. 11l BRA RI) BROS. & CD. NEW YORK STOCK MARKET. New York - , July 30. —The share spec ulation to-day reflected little if any improvement in the character of the market, inanipulaton being in strong relief. The movement was sluggish with a sagging tendency the greater part of tin 1 day and the afternoon operations were characterized by a inf lated rally on covering of short con tracts. The real drift of affairs specu latively was again more clearly de fined in the bond department, than in the stock movement. The early Lon don cables reported a lower market for American securities but later ad vices from that centre, received just before the opening here, evidenced a change of front. A well defined sus picion developed early that the higher prices for Americans in Loudon had j been engineered from this side or. in other words, that the familiar “rig gang'’ process had been worked by powerful banking interests. The ad-J vanee in prices halted after the initial dealings and the market became almost stagnant, prices, * however, easing otf gradually. There was no news of im portance bearing upon values aside THE NEWS AND OBSERVER, FRIDAY MORNING. JULY 31, 1836 from a firmer tendency in the exchange market which lacked significance ow - ing to the well understood operations of the stock exchange. The bond market displayed aggre sive strength in the early session and there was a nofieable abatement of the recent selling pressure for for eign account. Later realizations caused a reaction. The closing was irregular, with losses predominating. The sales were $740,000. sifw Yoke, July 39 - Money a c eas a* * arc at, 1 • t n. > 1 • r i per cent. p. Une : .r 65T.7 per cer:-. .
