On.Tuesday llight they went to a cheap lodging fcouse on lower Front Street, where they secured a room with three beds in jk, and each was to occupy a separate ed. In undertaking to lock the room Watson discovered that the lock Was and that he could not make the dor secure. He made known the fact to his companions. "I'll fix that." replied Kelly, and he proceeded to roll his bed up against the floor. "No person can get in now. and they do. they'll get me first and you ^fellows will not get hurt." concluded Kelly as he piled into bed. and the trio was soon in the arms of Morpheus. The next morning when Watson and Smith awoke they found Kelly's bed Jmpty and the occupant gone. They iliistrusted Hass ed'over to Moorliead later in the day and met Kelly in one of the bar ooms. He was spending money liber lly. which strengthened tiieir beliel that he had robbed them. The men ^reused him of the act and a small iized rumpus followed. The Moorhead golice caught on to the difficulty and forced the men to come over to this iidc. Kelly balked after crossing the bridge and started back. Watson and Smith insisted that he come on up Street. Kelly pulled a knife pn his friends and made a break across the bridge. His victims followed and the three were arrested and confined in the Ijjloorhead city jail. Chief Gowland was notified and with Captain Grant brought |jie parties to this city last evening. T/hile in a saloon at Moorhead Kelly gave Watson $2 of the money alleged to have been taken. He states that he found Smith's knife on the room floor. Smith states that his pockets had been tffied during the niglit spent at the Aborning house, but that he had taken tjie precaution to pin his money to his iftiirt, in which he slept. Watson and 'fjmith will be kept in confinement as fitnesses, unless they can make bond. §earey Kelly was arraigned before Justice this morning, and the charge 'jpas changed from larceny from the per son to petty larceny. Dr. McManus 011 examination .found the man to be suffering froni a well develop ed, case of diohthefia. and the patient was immediately sent out to his home near Cold water, and will there be closely looked after by the health of ficers. One of his companions at the threshing machine of Ed Schiefner was into town on Siinday and was detained by the authorities to prevent further spread of the disease. He was thor oughly fumigated but Monday night he escaped and his whereabouts are un known. a J* Russian womaij, re siding in tlie west part of the county, and whose family is said to be suffer ing with scarlet fever, came into town with a load of cream cans for the cream station, potatoes, etc. The load was promptly confiscated under the direc tion of State's Attorney Webb, and hauled to the dump ground and the wo man was sent back to her home. Dr. Ho wen. the county physician, is now in the hills investigating the matter, and will do his utmost to wipe out the dis ease.
