It is generally stated that there has been no more laying off of men this year than is always usual at this time of the year. In all of the houses there are during the season a number of tempor ary hands who j»re and they expect to be laid off at the close of the season's busi ness and many of them are strangers every year. Manager Jones of the Deering office expects to make another trip to Chicago next Monday to be away about two weeks bringing him back to Fargo again in time to make the transfer to Mr. Weston who is to be general agent here. Mandan Pioneer: If the Marquise de Mores should put into execution the projects she is reported to have in view, for the development of Medora, she will be entitled to lasting com mendation. There are indications that Sentinel Butte is getting away with the business of the county, and that Me dora is losing its relative importance. It is beautifully located, surrounded by imposing hills, nestling picturesquely in a valley, surrounded by millions of tons of easily accessible coal. AUVERGNE COMMANDERY,' The initial event, incident to the cel ebration of the twentieth anniversary of the institution of Auvergne Com mandery No. 2, Knights Templar, will take place tonight, with an elaborate conference of the Order of the Red Cross, beginning at 7:30. The work will be done on the stage of the auditorium, and the dramatic sit uations, incident to the degree, will be realistically brought out by the rich ar ray of scenery and lights At the close a banquet will be served.
