So dark and gloomy was it yesterday
that several of tfye churches were
obliged to use gas during the morning
services, that is in edifices where gas
service was available, but in others
where electricity, was the only means
of lighting congregations could not
see to use books.

Ex-Mayor Johnson was a passenger

ing on business connected with the
grain growers' convention which is to be
held in this city in January* He expects

Mrs. Paul Martin slipped on the
Broadway crossing of the Northern
Pacific Saturday evening on her way
home from the Degree of Honor par
ty and sprained an ankle. Two bones
in the ankle were broken and she will
be crippled for some weeks.
In the county court this morning an
order was made allowing the report of
the administrator of the estate of Ozias
Mix, deceased, and a final decree of dis
tribution was entered. An order was
also made confirming the sale of certain
leal estate of Benjamin, deceased.
The Luger Undertaking Co. is mak
ing an effort to locate friend^ of the
late Henry Curry, who met death at
the N. P. railway bridge on Saturday
jn£rning. If relatives are not found
thoyold veteran will be-given the regu
lar '$35 soldier burial, provided for by
law. It is said that Curry has a broth
er residing at Cando.

test were concluded Saturday evening.
After the testimony has been transcribed
the attorneys for the contestants will be
given ten days in which to file a brief
and ten days thereafter the attorneys

havihg I good laugh, among themselves,
over a remark made to Joe Zimmerman
yesterday. Mr. Zimmerman was asked
by a friend if he was still playing with
tlie' orchestra and was answered in the
affirmative. Chatting along about theatre
matters the friend said, "then you play
for the shows." Mr. Zimmerman re
plied, "yes." "Good" said the friend,
"then you'll play between the pieces at
the Thomas concert, Fm going to that."
Joe says he never had such hard work

Alfred G. Miller and Miss Ellen J.
Bellberg, both of this city, were married
Saturday evening in the county court
room, Judge Hanson officiating. The
bride is a well known Fargo girl and
the groom is a son of George Miller
and an employe of the electric light
company.
The case of Folger vs. Hodges will
occupy the attention of the jury in the
district court until tomorrows night. At
noon today the plaintiff concluded his
case and rested, and the defendant com
menced the presentation of his case at
the opening of the afternoon session.
Hodges is on the stand. There has
been nothing new developed in the
case. The Aetna Indemnity Co. vs
Fred Schroeder is the next case set for
trial. Plaintiff sues to recover $1,500
alleged to be due on a certain bond
made by the defendants for Wm. Cle
ments, the elevator agent, who suicided
at Leonard about three years ago, and

SENTENCED AT MANDAIN.
Mandan Pioneer: In the district court
on Saturday morning, Harry Morgan
was sentenced to the penitentiary for
two years and four months for grand
larceny at the store of Lueder Bros.,
of New Salem. The defendant had, on
the previous day, pleaded guilty to the
offence charged. His companion, Felix
McCarthy, was discharged on motion
of State's Attorney Campbell, as there
was not enough evidence to secure a
conviction.
