Fulton,' for over a half a century a forage master in the United States army and one of the best known men in Virginia, died at Old Point Comfort a few days ago. With him the office of, forage master passes out of existence. It was abolished several years aago,'but as Mr. Fulton was the only person holding such a position he was allowed to continue for life. He enter ed the United States army in' 1850. The supper given ast night under the auspices of the ladies of the Roberts Street M- E. Church proved a very sat is factory enterprise in every way. The matter was taken up by' the board for discussion late yestetday afterjidon, and the foregoing opinions are practically the result of the board's deliberations. Nothing definite was decided upon, but it is more than likely that the board will ultimately decide to rebuild the annex as cheaply as pos sible, putting iii plain board finish and stock doors, reducing the size of all rooms and putting all of the officers in this building for the present. Then, if it is decided to build an entirely new structure, this cheap material can be torn out and the loss will be small. It is held^.that if this plan is adopted the officials, while having limited quarters will be all together and will have an ample 'vault service. This scheme will probably be adopted, if it is found that the expense of rebuilding is smaller than the expense of renting temporary quartet's. INTERESTING POLICE FIGURES Offens^iiCo nmltted and the! Ffarmer Wallace in The Bismarck Tribune: We are informed by the state press itliat the residents of the counties of Allred, McKeiuie and Wallace pro pose to consolidate these three coun ties. organize and call it Roosevelt. I do not object to the consolidation —that is a matter, for the actual resi dents and the executive under the law to decide. But 1 do most earnestly protest again aft'the proposition to ef face the name of Allred from the coun ty names, and the insertion of that of any other person, dead or living. I am at a loss to know the motive that actuates those who make this prop osition. 1 believe it springs from those who do not know who Allred was, or what service he rendered the old ter ritory. the -stale-and the nation. He joined the First Min nesota regiment- which was the-, first tendered to President Lincoln to de fend the union. He served with that •regiment in the army of the Potomac and was in .a^44)$ .principal battles of that grand branch of the army. He was one of the 300 who defended Cem etery Hill at ^Gettysburg, and was in the charge of tMit goo against 3,000 ad vancing confederates. It was a pivotal point and battle and the Minnesota First held the Hill until reinforcements arrived. After the war in the early seventies he settled in Cass County. He was a plain, sturdy, industrious, up right farmer citizen, highly respected by the pioneer settlers. he was elected to the terri torial legislature and during that ses sion introduced the capjtol removal bill. That w^as passed and led to the location of the capitol at Bismarck. During this session many new counties were carved out and named, and recog nizing in L. J. Allred the typical pio neer farmer, the gallant and heroic veteran of the civil war. a name that would honor a county, they placed his name -the map. and expected it to remain there with those other pioneer •names—Barnes, Kidder. Stutsman, Bur Heigh. Traill. Cavalier. Griggs and Rich —all of whom have passed away, leav ing honorable names and good records =THE .North DaKola Conservatery....
