C. I' iy^'% Be-Interesting. Clayton Worst conducted the excur sion party to Chicago, where they were fnet by Professor Shepperd^ who helped in showing them the attractions at the |tig show. The boys are very enthusiastic over the trip and presented Messrs. Worst '••and Shepperd beautiful tokens of their appreciation of the labor and enterprise Which the arrangement for the trip en tailed. Professor Shepperd of the A. G. re turned to Pargo with the party of live stock students last evening after haviftg spent a delightful period of something Tnore than a month—accompanied by Mrs. Shepperd—'in visiting-, the large tSa^stern cittes. A week, in Mew York and-ten days in Washington, D. C., con stituted their longest stops, although Niagara, Buffalo, Albany. Troy, West Point, Philadelphia, Baltimore Annap olis and Cincinnati, all formed interest ilng points for shorter visits. Mrs. Shepperd is returning by way of &er old home in southern Iowa instead #f visiting the stock show and expects to reach Fargo some time next week. Prof. Shepperd says he asked for The forum at the congressional library in Washington and learned from it that the county courthouse had been destroy ed by fire and much other interesting i*ews. The fact that The Forum is. kept on file in the libraries of the seaboard pimply reinforces the common- remark: ^Everybody reads The Forum." Professor Shepperd told a Forum re orter that while in Chicago recently ic arranged with one of Swift & Co., •stock men to come to Fargo for the ten day stock judging course to give the students an idea of the type of hogs which the Chicago market demands. Mr. Ferguson was formerly professor of animal husbandry in the Michigan Agricultural College and* is one of the cleverest men to demonstrate types of stock, by taking animals before his audi ence, to be found in this country. The fact .that he goes right into the stock yards at Chicago and buys and sorts out the car load lots of hogs to suit the different market demands indi cates that he understands the business from"the practical standpoint. He re quested Professor Shepperd to prov'idfc him with some practicaf market speci mens such as the farmers have which he can have slaughtered after the stock men have passed judgment on them. If Mr. Ferguson carries his demonstrations to the pork chop and cured ham basis it would seem that he should be able to instruct our farmers satisfactorily, even if they have come from Missouri and have to be shown. Briggs & Delancey of Valley City have sent some of their fine Percheron blood ed horses to the college for use in the stock judging classes next week which irtsures a high grade of stock in that line. The character of the stock which will be used for the stock judging at the college during the next two weeks will be an agreeable surprise to the stockmen. The prospect is that all of the available space in the stock judg ing room will be filled. Stock and grain producers who cannot find time to take Sl. ,, SATUBDAY ETENIHlL.. DECEMBfeS ^kimj .-i^ .~y.
