Jury Waa Out Ab6ut Eighteen Hours Called For Speclat Instrnetloife u The jury in the case of Clar& Logan vs. Freerks, Bessie & Freerks, after having been out about eighteen hours, returned a verdict at n o'clock this morning for the defendants. The argu ments in the case were concluded last evening about 5 o'clock and the jury was then charged by Judge Pollock, retiring at about 5:30. At 9 o'clock this morning the jury reported to the court that the members Were Unable to reach an agreement and asked for ad ditional instructions, which were given, the jury returning a verdict an hour later for the defendants. Attorney Hil dreth will argue a motion for a new trial and if turned down will take the case to the supreme court. Clara Logan, the plaintiff, lueS to rccover "judgment for $1,300. She al leged in her petition that she had put up $1,500 in cash for bond for young Blancnard, who was arrested oh a fel ony charge, and later convicted apd sentenced to the penitentiary. She states that after his conviction she de-' manded a return of her money, but was refuse^ by the' defendants, who stated that they had used it in the de fense of young Blanchard. She denied that she ever authorized them to em ploy her money in the defense and brought suit to recover the full amount, charging conversion. The defendants stated that they had received the mon ey as charged, and were later instruct ed by Mrs. Logan to use it in the de fense of young Blanchard. In their answer they itemized the expenditures, showing that all of the money, save a fraction over $ico had been used, and stated that they were willing to turn this over to the Logan woman. The case has been hotly contested and de veloped a number of sensations, as forecasted by The Forum a number of days ago. Edward- Enggrud anpeyed^ for the defendants and is entitled t^nie* lion's share of the credit for the vic tory. His.plea to the jury was a mas terful effort and when it was concluded he was congratulated by quite a num ber of the members of the bar.
