It was in the shape of a resolution amending the franchise resolution ad opted by the supervisors last Satur day night, and in effect released the fitreet railway company from operat ing the line to the fair grounds, ex cept during races and fairs, until such time as the street railway company obtained a license to construct a loop of sojne kind on the east side of railway company further ln- eluded a guarantee that the line would i be built apd in operation by the time the fair was opened in July. Another proposition, which was submitted to the board, was for a i franchise to operate a lino out Sev enth street to the fair grounds from the present agricultural college line without any conditions as to service. This was also turned down by the board., 1 A. C. 'ifftrr1" Freshmen Will Present Mr. Bob To morrow Evening—Sophomore Exercises Saturday Evening. Members of the freshman, sopho more and senior classes at the agri cultural college are busily engaged at present preparing for their various class day exercises and the orches .tral and choral association for a con cert. The succession of the class pro grammes has been revived at the col lege and instead of all being delivered in succession for one week straight as formerly, they will this year be de livered in the remaining weeks of the term. This arrangement has been made to dispose of as much confllc tlon with other events as possible. The following night at similar ttohe, and place, the sophomOre class will present its programme. The title' Is 1 ....... Our State, indicating that the sopho-1 claims to have seen Stensgaard after mores will devote their efforts to| o'clock on the night of Sunday, lauding North Dakota. Several feu-] May 20. This was a later hour than inorous sketches are also to be Intro- duced. Regarding the senior class pro gramme, which is to bo given the evening of June 11, no definite partic-' ulars have been given. It has been stated, however, that as no central thought has been followed in prepar ing the programme, the selection will be of variable nature. On Saturday evening, June 9, the Orchestral and Choral association will give a concert In the chapel. It is stated that likely only part of the programme will be given by the as sociation and that the remainder will be miscellaneous selections sijch as solos, quartettes, etc. No admission is to be charged 'at any of these affairs and it is hoped that the various programmes will be delivered, tip a full house. The resolution was returned to Mr. Watson by the supervisors this morn ing with the statement that the board of supervisors did not feel justified In accepting It. The refusal of the supervisors to entertain the proposition, which is generally considered reasonable, comes as a distinct surprise. It has been the unanimous opinion of those who have kept track of the progress of events in the street railway project that officers of Fargo township would recede from their unreasonable de would recede their unreasonable de- i mand that cars be operated on the stub line every day in the year as soon as it became apparent that the Fargo city council would not grant the street railway company a franchise to build the north side loop. One of the strongest indications pointing to the murder theory is the fact that a young Norwegian from Pelican Rapids spent Sunday, the day of Stensgaard's disappearance, at the Viking hotel and left early the next morning for parts unknown. Stens igaard formerly lived in Pelican Rap ids and while there he and the young man are said to have had some trou ble oyer a girl. As a result the feel ing between the two men was any thing but friendly and the man's com ing here and then suddenly disap pearing the. morning after Stens gaard's death leads the police to be lieve that he may have taken ad vantage of Stensgaard's drunken con dition tor gratify his revenge. It Is not known where the man under sus picion has gone, though It Is thought he went west. Coroner Kaqss hap the police of both Moorhead and Fargo working on the case and some new evidence is being developed. One of the new wit nesses is S. E. §ipe, a drayman. Sipe anV of i The building of the stub line to the i fair grounds would give Fargo town ship in the neighborhood of $10,000 of assessable property and this fea ture alone, it was thought, would I make the officers of the township very anxious to have the line built. The line of reasoning adopted by the su pervisors, James Holes, James Hick ey and James Reddy, the three Jims, is a matter of considerable specula tion on the streets today. The fact that Mr. Reddy has at different times been in the business of operating bus lines is recalled in connection with his part in the action of the board df trustees in refusing to grant a satis factory franchise to the street rail way company. CUSS HEMES ii imiiDU! mtoEv Mysterious Disappearance of Visitor From Pelican Rapids Has Aroused Some Suspicion of Foul Play. Was Syvert Stensgaard murdered? The question cannot yet be positively answered but there are some suspic ious indications which point In that direction and the authorities are now working on a clue which may lead to a solution of the mystery surrounding the man's death. the other witnesses who have been examined saw him. Sipe says that when he saw him Stensgaard was under the influence of liquor and was talking loudly and boisterously but his condition was not such that ho could not take care of himself. Bank Clearings. Fargo baink clearings for the past month amounted in all to $1,878,514. This Is a considerable falling off from last year when the clearings for the same month were $2,124,596.80. The decrease of about 13 per cent is at tributed by. the bankers to the wet weather which has made business slow. i The clearings for the past week show a better record than that of the corresponding week last year. They amount to $332,802.66 which is an Increase of 5 per cent over the same we^k In i905 when the clear ings were $316,941.88.
