1« THOUSANDS WERE DO NOT FORGET THIS—HOW TO CAST VOTE8 NOW. AW votes and remittances mailed, up Thursday night can be mailed In Cite usual way. Every letter mailed «fter this time to the contest depart ment should be sent by special de livery. Yesterday afternoon the vo\es were counted for the last time until Mon day night. Some of the candidates were so desirous of being at the head Of the list in their respective districts fbr the closing davs of the contest 'that they parted with almost their en tire reserve. Others were willing to wait, and these are the ones that wiir eft rise many a surprise next Monday night. After the votes were counted the ballot box was locked and sealed, and the keys to the same sealed in an envelope and were deposited with the Merchants National bank, where they will be delivered to the Judges, Who will open the box, and the final cou%t will begin at 7 o'clock sharp. Contestants can poll their reserve vote at any time from now on, as the ballot box will not be opened again until next Monday evening. By the way some of the contestants voted Saturday the contest manager was led to believe that they thought It was the closing day of the con test. While the vote cast yesterday looks to be a very large one, It is Hot so big after all, when yoa take llto consideration the number of votes that are given for a yearly subscrip tion. With but five days remaining In the contest, it has become Imperative that each candidate should do her best secure as many votes as possible during the remaining days of this Week. At 7 o'clock on Monday night I the ballot box will be opened for tjift tost time and the final count begun. The Forum will be pleased if each candidate 1b represented at the final «ount by a friend to look after their sterests. The frierfds of the con stants are also cordially Invited to present at Union hall and witness the final count. Commencing today no more votes will be returned to the contestants outside of the city, but will be de posited in the ballot box at once. Rockefeller's, latest gift to the univer sity of, Chicago, which has just been announced, raises the total of his be quests to this institution to nearly $2§, 000,000 or just $4,000,000 less than the line which the Standard Oil Co. of In diana will not have to pay—a fact which has caused covert speculation at the midway institution as to what would have been received, if anything, if the fine had been upheld. The an nouncement of the bequest followed the dismissal of the case against the "oil trust" by less than two weeks, which may or may not have been a coincidence. Rockefeller's other gifts to the university range over a period of twenty years, the first one having been made in January, 1889, and the last one previous to this being in Jan uary, 1909. The various Installments ir size from $143,322, the small est, to $3,245,000, the largest, and in i ,uc..uiiy one, of the largest ever made to an educational institution. The occasion of the latest benefaction was the seventieth convocation of the uni versity, and the gift came as a stir prise in view of the million dollars which had been received in January. The new money consisted of two in stallments, one of $100,000, to be de voted to the new school of education, and another of $76,960, for the care and improvement of the physical equipment of the university. The larger part of the latter installment will be spent on the Kent chemical laboratory and the campus. With the help of these funds the midway school will become for the first time entirely self-supporting, according to President Judson, who said that the annual de ficit had been steadily reduced for sev eral years untH now the Income from the new money would be sufficient to wipe it out entirely. "There is perhaps a popular impression that an annual deficit is a valuable asset for an insti tution ~of learning," said Dr. Judson. "That opinion is not shared by the board of trustees of the university." Minneapolis Rftpid Transit.
