Lignite is coming to be used extensively in this state and it will not be long until its market wiil broaden 'to include otfyer states. The Michigan supreme court has just handed down a decision declaring yoid the law requiring commission firms to give bonds before doing business in the state. The court holds that it is class legislation, and an unjust inter ference with legitimate business. The same law is in foroe in North Dakota, but its constitutionality has never -been attacked. -The law' keeps out wildcat commission firms, and insures some protection to customers in case of fail ure. General Standi^h is doing the ad vance agent act for Bryan and writes to papers published at points where Bryan will speak in the state to have an alarm sounded so every man, woman and child can hear Bryan— and urges the audience to take a posi tion with the wind—so Bryan will not have to talk against it. The direc tions laid down .by General Sbandish remind us of the rules laid down for catching the w^ry blind, pig—when the esteemed general was attorney general for the state. The toughs •at Victor, Cola, wttio at tempted to frighten Governor Roose velt, struck the wrong man, Governor Roosevelt is a good, dfeal of a western man himself,. and 'he doesn't know what it is to be frightened. Cowardly and indecent assaults like this one will do Roosevelt no harm. It seems the general opinion through the state that with an active and ag gressive campaign—such as will be I made with Frank White at the head of the ticket—the last hope of the fu sionists is gone glimmering. IjUT THE MANAGEMENT OF THE MANDAN FAIR WILL PAY OUT IF IT HAS TO BORROW MONEY. Speaking of the unfortunate circum stances under which the state fair was The directors met Thursday evenihg and decided to continue the fair to Sat urday night and carry oat so much of the original program as possible. They recognized that it trould be a los ing game financially but felt that it must be done to keep faith with the state from wfcich it had received an appropriation and the designation of a state fair, Friday and Saturday so far es pos sible the original program, for the last two_days, was carried out. The run ning races were good, but the trotting races were not much, many of the ex pected horses having failed to come oh account of the previous inclement weather. The Indians, as usual, parti cipated in several pony races and they were all hotly contested and exciting. Awards were made in the several de partments and premium warrants will %e issued as soon as the book can be written up. The premiums will all be paid though the management may have to borrow money to do it.
