'Minneapolis, May-30.—The contracts for the grading of the Soo road's neiw extension from Wishek, N. D., to the Missouri river has been awarded to Halvorson & Richards of this city, and work has been commenced on the old Aberdeen grade between Wishek and Ashley, a distance of twenty miles. As soon as this work1 is completed' the1 grading from, Ashley to the Missouri river, a distance of about fifty miles, will be taken up. Engineers are still in the field, and the exaiqt terminus of the road on the Missouri river has not yet been determined but in fejl probability it will be for the present at the town of Winona, in Emmons county, North Dakota, directly oppo site Fort Yates, a line having been run to that place. THE .MISSOURI The roUte as now surveyed will- fol lotw the Spring Creek valley from Ash ley, and will describe a semi-circle, running into South Dakota* a few miles from Ashley, twelve miles north of Eureka and eight miles north pf Mound City, thence running northwest into North Dakota again, terminating as stated above. The entire seventy miles will be completed by Oct. 1. The new extension will be ironed and in operation between Wishek and Ashley by July 4, and the citizens of that place are already preparing for a great celebration to commemorate the opening of its first railroad on that day. Gtrf Arlkerfi Riotous New York, May SO.—The girj strik ers at the handkerchief factory of Acheson, W^rflern & Co., at Passaic, N. J., made a riotous demonstration during the day.' One .hundred girls' reported for duty and despite policy protection several of them were roughly handled by the strikers, The latter theg^stoned the factory, smash ing many windows. The police ar rested four of the strike leaders but lost one of them in a charge from the strikers.
