A few years ago the total valuation of property in the state lor purposes of assessment was barely more than tj hundred millions. When Alexander nnhfiir. Hell pat-, ented and perfected his telephone thOj skeptics were loud in their derision of the "toy." Nevertheless. Bell found believers, ami those believers were re-1 warded for their faitli by immense tor-j tunes. Gardner G. Hubbard, the fa-1 ther-in-law and faithful friend of Reiki was the man who risked the most and gained the greatest rewards in back ing Hell and the telephone until it reached the stage where the public no longer derided the instrument as a playthinu. but clamored for it as a necessity. In the Marconi wireless telegraph there is a parallel of history. .lust now in the formative and con-j structive period there are doubters and skeptics, but there are some faith ful friends, and it is these friends and faithful ones who are going to reap the fortunes that are bound to follow the general adoption of the wireless, system. The great advantage of this system over that using wires and ca bles is its extremely low initial cost, which relieves the company operating it of a large burden of interest, taxes and depreciation, thus increasing its earning capacity many fold. Those who are investing in the stock of the Marconi Wireless Tele graph Co. of America to.day are the tines who are certain to win great for tunes by the future increase in value of those stocks, as well as through the dividends earned and paid in the in terim. The Var.dei l.ilts in railroads, the Goulds in tele graphs and railroads, the Mackays in cables, the Rockefellers in Standard Oil. the Hubbards in telephones. The man who has a few hundred dollars laid away to invest and who has the intelligence, to grasp a tleeting oppor tunity will be the one to seize the Marconi offering and make his for tune. "The Weekly Marconigram" is the name of a periodical devoted to the new wireless system, and its publish ers. Messrs.
