SEASON HERE
ENDS IN TIE
TEAMON ROAD
Heavy and Clean -Hiding Fea
tures Wahp-Breck Contest
at Local Ball Park
PLANS FOR NEXT YEAR
The home baseball season closed
here last evening with Wahpcton
Breckenridge and Bismarck in the
fourth gamc_ the lqcals have played
out of 12. The game was callcd at
the end of the tenth inning with the
score 7 to to allow the visitors to
catch a train.
During the 12 games played here
since the Valley City team was trans
ferred to Bismarck the local club
tied four, won one and lost seven.
Illness of Dean, star shortstop of the
Valley City team, caused the locals
its first troubles. He was injured a
second time just before coming here
and is laid up for the season with a
bad ankle. In the last few games
Hart was played with an injured
ankle. Brundagc, outfielder, develop
ed ft, sore arm just after he c^pic
here, and the team has been short
handed all of the time.
Although Valley City reports say
that an effort will be made to keep
:thc
Dakota league franchise, the lo
cal management is said to'have Pres
ident Cantillon's word that Bismarck
will be on the circuit 'next year. The
-attendance here, according to Walter
Cantillon who has been managing the
business end of the team, was slight
ly disappointing as to Sunday games.
It is recognized, however, that the
attendance was good in the first few
games but the local fans would not
support a tail-end playing poor ball,
even though the cause may have
been unavoidable injuries. President
Cantillon when here recently said
that he believed Bismarck would be
the second best town in the Dakota
league.
It, is expected that the local man
agement will soon begin la'ying plans
for next year. With improved busi
nes conditions it is felt that a Da
kota league team caA make money
here, if the team is playing good
enough ball to hold the fans.
The Bismarck team left for Aber
deen and will finish the season about
August 25.
The game last night was marked by
heavy hitting on both sides. Mich
aelson, local pitcher, had an unusual
record. He struck out seven men,
but was touched up for 13 hits.
Three of these were grounders which
took bad hops away from the in
ficlders. Bismarck started a rally in
the tenth which also might have been
a win if Hart had not been injured.
He singled, Mennc singled and Stalk
er singled, filling *the bases. Mc-'
Clue struck out. Bachant hit a ter
rific line ^drive to left, but the visi
tors' left-fielder was camped for it.
Michael son then went out, pitcher to
-first base. The locals' big, inning was
the second whenlfivc .terrific hits net
ted five runs, McClure getting a two
bagger with three men on bases.
Lane got another home run, this one
being some luck, however. The ball,
going at a terrific rate,.founded away
from the Wahpeton right-fielder and
Lane circled the Bases.

Chicago, Aug. J6.—After, a record
of 13 straight victories in two years
over Pittsburgh, Art Nehf, star Gi
ant southpaw, found hie fourteenth
attempt unlucky and was driven
from the box while the Pirates cap

fifth straight victory over the Gir

Bob Mcusel's homer in tike nintjl
enabled the Yankees to tic the score
and helped to down Ty Cobb's scrap

double header with Washington, put
the team within a half game of th$
leaders.

clouting home runs in each game of
a double header, which Cleveland
and Philadelphia divided. His total
is now 27.
Chicago collected 25 of the ^3
hits registered in a game with the
Boston Red Sox and won 19 to 11.

ROSENBERG IS
NEW CHAMPION
New York, Aug 16—Dave Rosen
berg rff Brooklyn last night became
the first "synthetic" world's boxing
champion.
N
Legally he became the "world's^ ju|y 21
middleweight chamyr.on in New York*
state" and just an outsider in the
47 states, to say nothing of the re
mainder of the continent, or Europe,
Asia, Africa and the Antipodes,
whejo Johnny Wilson of Boston re
mains the king bee.
Rosenberg gained his long, hypen
ated title by bcv.:ing into a «ulp
Phil Krug of Harrison, N. J., who
challenged the Brooklynitc wheV the
state boxing commission pronounced
Wilson passe because he refused the
amount of money offered him to box
Rosenberg.
Another contest for a fabricated
tilte will be staged tonight when
Johnny Dundee of New York meets
Danny Frush of Cleveland, for a scp-|
arate featherweight crown.

Eight Btisy Rounds
(By the Associated Press)
New York, Aug. 16.—Johnny Dun
dfe did two things last night in his
bout with Danny Frush of Cleve
land that he seldom does.
He landed a knockout and he an
nexed a title, the former much more
realistic than the crown bestowed
upon him by the New York state
boxing commission, "featherweight
champion of the world—in New York
state." Before the evening ended
some conserver of energy started
a movement to shorten the designa
tion to "featherweight champion of
New York State."
"That's what it amounts to since
Johnny Kilbane, basking behind a

both hands, sent the Clevela|\^r to
