Social and Personal | A.. Anderson, Ward County Treasurer, Weds Miss B. Dahl Mrs. J. W. Knecht, 506 Third street, rent to Minot this week for the mar riage of her sister, Miss Borghild Dahl to Alvin M. Anderson, Minot, which took place Thursday at the First Lutheran church, the Rev. T. F. Ghillixson officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson are taking ft wedding trip to the Black Hills and will make their home in Minot upon their return. Mr. Anderson is trea surer of Ward county, and previously served as deputy treasurer. Mrs. An derson has been employed in the treasurer's office for several years. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. H. Dahl, Norma, N. D. * * * Four Bismarck people who were members of the congregation of the Rev. Robert Scott Inglis here 42 years ago were among the guests at a breakfast given this morning at the Patterson hotel by Miss Bertha Pal mer in compliment to Rev. and Mrs. tnglis, who arrived last night from Newark. N. J. Rev. Inglis, then a student pastor. Was the first minister in this Pres byterian field. He now is pastor of the First Presbyterian church at Newark, where Miss Palmer met him la&t year while on a visit to relatives. Miss Palmer’s aunt has Ijcen a mem ber of Rev. Inglis’ Newark congrega tion for many years. Rev. and Mrs. Inglis will spend the week-end ’n Bis marck, and Rev. Inglis will speak at the Sunday evening s'ervice at the Presbyterian church. Mrs. Inglis will be remembered by pioneer resi dents of Bismarck as Miss May Pierce, daughter of the late territor ial governor, Gilbert A. Pierce. * * * Mrs. C. F. Martin, 720 Avenue E, returned Thursday night from Dazey, N. D., where she spent the last week as the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Adams. Mrs. Martin also visited with her sisters at Cooperstovvn and Valley City. She was accom panied on the trip by her small niece, Marvella Iverson. * * * Mrs. Frank Barnes, 616 Ninth street, was hostess at a luncheon Thursday afternoon, honoring Mrs. W. E. Fitzsimons, St. Paul, who is visit ing in the city. Garden flowers dec orated the luncheon table, where places were laid for eight. The aft ernoon was spent with music. * * * Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Davis and son and daughter William and Donna Jean, 930 Sixth street, left today by motor for Devils Lake and Cando, where they will visit over the week end. At Cando they will be the guests of Mrs. Davis’ brother, Dr. E. H. Crary. * * * Mrr 'and Mrs. A. G. Olson and two daughters, 511 Eighth street, left yes terday for a trip to points in Min nesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. They will also motor to St. Louis, Mo., for a visit with their daughter. Miss Eimly Olson, who is engaged in Y. W. C. A.- work there. * * * Mrs. G. L. Gilman arrived last eve ning from her home at Plymouth, Wis., to spend a few weeks in Bis marck as the guest of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Gilman, 707 Avenue A. * * * The Bismarck Public Library will be closed each evening from July 14 to August 15, Miss Ruth King, city librarian, said today. During this time the library will be opened at 9 a. m., and will close at 5:30 p. m. * * * Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Shepard. Rose apartments, will leave Sunday by car for Sioux City, la., for a visit with Mrs. Shepard’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred R. Briggs. They will De away about two weeks. * * * Mrs. A. C. Staak and daughter Mar jorie. 225 Avenue A West, are at the Staak cottage on Lake Koronls, near Painsville. Minn., where they will re main for the balance of the summer. * * * Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Ulrich, Still'- water, Minn., are spending the week end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Stone, 406 Rosser avenue, West. EAT SHOP Evening Playground Activities Planned Due to the hot weather, evening ac tivities will be featured at Kiwanls park next week, Miss Lois Howard, playground supervisor, announced to day. The playgrounds schedule a s planned for next week is William Moore, school Monday and Thursday, 1:30 to 4 p. m., Friday, 9 to 11:30 a. m.; Kiwanis park, Tuesday 9 to 11:30 a. m.; Wednesday and Friday 7 to 9 p. m.; Richholt school, Monday, Wed nesday and Thursday, 9 to 11:30 a. m. A special program is being planned for Friday evening at the park, but children are urged to come for both evenings, Miss Howard said. * * * Miss Ethel McGruer left Bismarck yesterday for Jamaica, N. Y„ where she will have charge of the circula tion department of one of the city li braries. .Miss McGruer, who was a member of the faculty of the Bis marck high school for several years, was graduated from the library school of the University of Illinois, Urbana, in June. She has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Mary McGruer, for the last three weeks and has been com plimented at a number of farewell parties. Mrs. McGruer will go to Jamaica later hi the summer to make her home. * * * Judge and Mrs. W. S. Casselman, 219 Eighth street, and their guests, James Lee Smith and son James Lee, Jr., of Medailian, Colombia, and Los Angeles, Calif., respectively, left to day by motor for Moosejaw, Sask., where they will be the guests'of Mrs. Casselman's brother, Dr. J. E. Hough for a few days. They will also stop at Central Butte, Sask., for a visit with two other brothers, Ernest.and Herbert Hough. * * * In compliment to Miss Kathryne Roan, Long Beach, Calif., who is vis iting here, Dr. and Mrs. F. B. Strauss entertained at a bridge dinner Thurs day evening in the Rose room at the Patterson hotel. Covers were placed for 14 at the tables which had ap pointments in pastel shades, and were centered with bouquets of sweetpeas and other summer flowers. The eve ning was spent at cards. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Walter B. Booth, ac companied by Miss Sophia Ruo V and’ Miss Eva Brundage, arrived Friday evening by motor from Schenectady, N. Y., to spend 10 days at the home of Mr. Booth’s parents. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Booth, 320 Griffin street. Mr. Booth is employed in the wage rate department of the General Electric company of Schenectady. * * * F. A. Burchard and daughter Eve lyn arrived by motor last evening from Cedar Rapids, lowa, for a few days’ visit with Mr. Buchard’s moth er, Mrs. R. D., who has been a guest at the Hendricks home for a week, left today for Aber deen, where Mrs. Hendricks and chil dren will spend several weeks. * * * Mrs. F. B. Strauss and daughter Cora Marie and son Ernest left to day by motor for their summer home at Green Lake, Spicer, Minn., where they plan to spend a month or more. * * * Miss Kathryne Roan, Long Beach, Calif., has come to Bismarck for a visit with her brother and sister-in law, Dr. and Mrs. M. W. Roan, 222 Park street. * * * Mrs. C. M. Walker and baby son, 224 West Broadway, returned last eve ning after a month’s visit with rela tives at Owatonna, Minn., and High more, S. D. * * * Members of the King’s Daughters class of the First Evangelical church held a picnic and swimming party Tuesday evening at Glen Echo, near Sunny. * * * Members of the local court Catholic Daughters of America, will hold their regular meeting Monday night at 8 o’clock at St. Mary’s school auditor ium. D., July 12.— (JF) —A drunk cost Walter Heaton, Fargo, three years of liberty. Heaton was sentenced to three years in the state penitentiary by Judge A. T. Cole for nonsupport of his wife and children a year ago but the sentence was suspended. A month ago he was arrested on a charge of being drunk and the sentence su spension was continued. Today he was picked up on the same charge and Judge Cole ordered him to serve the old sentence. Flyer Says Companion Is Dying: in Jungle Rangoon, Burma, India, July 12. —(AP) —“Jimmy” Matthews, one of two British Airmen lost in Burmese jungles on a flight from England to Australia, has arrived at Prome, Burma. His companion, Eric Hook, had to be left behind in a dying con dition. Hook and Matthews had not been heard from since July 3, when they left Akyrab for Rangoon. On July 7 villagers of Taungup said they had seen a plane flying very low, appar ently in difficulties, toward the tiger infested jungle a few miles to ti e northeast. Edward Allensworth is the new president and Mrs. A. D. Welch was reappointed as clerk. Mrs. Margaret Robinson and two sons were callers Tuesday at the Al lensworth home. Mrs. Orrin Dutton is still confined to her bed, although she Is inr* roving and her many friends hope she will soon be able to be among us again.
