PRINCIPAL CITIES OF TEXAS, BUFFET SLEEPERS AND FREE RECLINING KATY CHAIR CARS The Dixie Lienor Case. In our issue of Thursday, May J, on article appeared under the caption. "Hired Boys to Sell It," and which read as follows: Mike and Jim Payne, who run a drug store at Dixie, were arrest ed a few days ago for introducing and selliug liquor. They had their examining trial before Comniis siouer CSullett and were bound over to await the action of the grand jury. The evidoncr showed that the defendants hir.'d boys to dispose of the unlawful fluid, for whioh they were to receive half of the profits. This little story was told the Akdmokeitk reporter by Deputy Stevens, who said he made the ar frst. Now comes .1. V. I'nyne, one of the aforesaid parties, and says: Mike and James Payne do not run a drug store at Dixie or else where, neither are they partners m nny business whatever. The charge upon which they were recently nrrested was "intro ducing" one gallon of whisky. The witnesses for the prosecu tion testified in substance that Kd Johnson liiui som wuisuy 10 ninny i patties about Dixie, implicating Mike Payne in two particulars. 1st. That he had loaned Kd Johuson mouey with which toi handle the fluid with the under standing that he was to have part of the profits. 2J- That Mike Payne furnished alcohol and whisky to Ed Johnson for the purpose of carrying on his unlawful traffic There was no evidence against Arc Thoroughly Organized For tho1 Memphis Reunion. i Tho Sons of Confederate Veter ans should look well to their in terests and maintain the prestige that they now hold in the national organization- They will be better represented at Memphis than any state in the union, unless it may bo Virginia- This progress is very creditable to our Division Commauder X.
