On tho discovery of the well there came to the scene hun dreds of farmers, laborers and railroad men, and there is a greater population in Red Fork now thau thero has over been m its history. This well is located on tho sito of a lease that was formerly the property of tho Cudahy Oil com pany, but which they abaudoned. Laredo, Tox., Juno 25, Tho prisoner, Cortez, with many aliases, charged with bciug the slayer of Sheriffs Morris, oi ICarnes and Glovor of Gonzales counties, and who for noarly throe weeks succeeded in alud lug by doubling and twistiugou his trail iu a thickly settled country, tho hundreds of officers who pursued him and swarmed about him at all times was taken from the Webb county jail last night at 10 o'clock aud started undor guard of Capt. Rogers und a number of deputy sheriffs and United States marshals for San Antonio. Before leaving tho jail he sont for Sheriff Ortiz, of Wobb county and after ho had boon identified ns thu right man, aud in quite a long statement said that he killed Sheriff Mor ris of Karnes county after ho had wouuded his brother. After pursuiug tho man who was with the dead shoriff some distanco, he returned and took possession of tho doad man's pistol. Thou in company with anothor Mexican, ho started for tho Colorado rivor, whore ho had friends living; that when Sheriff Glover aud his posse opened fire on tho houso whore ho had stopped for tho night ho and his friends got into a wagon aud returned tho tire. Ho does not know whothor ho killed Sheriff Glover and tho other manor not. At tho jail today, after having beeu warned, Cortez mado a statemout of tho killing of Mor ris, Glovor and Schuubel. Ho said; "I shot Shoriff Morris because he shot my brother without pro vocation. " ''Morris camo to my house to arrost mo. I was not, guilty of the chargo. My brother was thero aud was killed by Mortis and I Killed him." About tho killing of Sheriff Glovor, ho said that whilo ho tired three shots at Glover aud his posse, ho did not know tlrt ho killed him as thero wo a others shooting. Tho Arkansas aud Choctaw railway was origiually projected by the Central Coal aud Coko company, which secured tho right of way aud surveyed it iu advanco of tho organization of tho railroad company. Tho Arkansas aud Choctaw railroad will bo known as the Red Rivor routo. As originally planned it is to run from Wichita Falls, Texas, to Stamps, Ark., a distance of 310 miles. It is for tho construction of this lino that tho company Is or ganized, but already plans go far boyond a road of that length. A lino from Wichita Falls to El Paso that will connect with tho Moxican Central, is part of tho plans considered, aud tho men who aro talking about it have plenty of mouoy to build it, and J. R.
