ARDMORE CLEANINO UP.
The City is Now in Good Sanitary Con
dition and Improvement Continues.
Mayor Dick who rwuriu-d to the city
yoHtcrduy, expressed himself ae being
satisfied with the fnr.tny cn-:iIltlon
of Ardmore. Since tho recent work
wax undertaken of 'cleaning ur " n
Kreat deal has been accomplished. The
Mayor's ultimatum Hint tho sanitary
laws would be Mrlrtly enforced hns
hnd n good effect and wn the means
of Inducing many citizens to li-'od tho,
warning. Again tlio spirit of civic
pride, ho largely in evidence here, won
derfully niauir.-Htt-d. Itself In the worK
t lint has been going on.
The cost of tho work to tho city
lias been nominal and indeed very
low lu coinpnrlMin with what has been
accomplished. It wns declared that
the citizens hnd done their share In
tho matter of cleaning up. It Is hoped,
however, that the sanitary regulations
will be enforced to the letter and II
HiIh l done Ardmore can lie kept In
flrst cliiAH condition. The Ardmoroltc
does not deslro to be strict In tlio mat
ter of censuring anyone,' but If the
city will make regulur Inspection tours
of the town the usual complaint that
the town Is In a "fearful condition
will or can be avoided. In tho opinion
of lending citizens or Ardmore who
havo paid soma attention to sanitary
conditions of Into the trouble In the
future can be avoided If the people
will uso precaution In tho matter.
One mnn declared that the sanitary
condition of the town four weeks ago
was deplcvable and thnt It was the
fever scare that caused apprehension
here. He seemed to think that the
town should take care of Its condition
without tlio agitation that has been
going on. "Suppose, ho maintained,
thnt fever had never broken out in
Now Orleans, Ardmore like many oth
er towns, would have paid little atten
ton to the fact that It needed cleaning
up. Tako Dallas, for Instance, he said.
I'ntll tho fever broke out very little
effort wns mado to enforce the uniil
tary laws. Fear of the pestilence' has
caused the greatest upheaval in year3.
With ordinary conditions nntl as a pre
caution to sickness, Ardmore should
pay some attention to Its sanitary
Dr. Cnrr, president of tho board ol
health, declared that Ardmore Is In
good ehapc. Ho has been making a
rigid Inspection of the city during the
past few days and he aaid that the
streets nnd alleys wore In very good
condition. The construction of a drain
ago way on Caddo street, he said,
would prove very effective In carrying
the waste from Main street. It is
understood that persons would be ar
rested for violating the law if they In
sisted on dumping refuse or running
water Into the Main street gutter,
blocking the sower and caulng an
accumulation of filth.
Dr. Curr states that oil will be frea
ly used In many of the cess pools
about town. Tho dry, hot weather, he
said, had practically dried up many
stagnant pools and holes in tlio town
nnd these will probably be disinfected
with a powerful solution.
Somo of the streets need looking af
ter as there Is an accumulation of dirt
nnd nith in front of business houses.
Tho mayor Is to bo commended for
Ills efforts In tho past to keep the city
clean, but tho work should be kept
up. Nothing will Impress a visitor
more thnn a clean city, and Ardmore
should never bo permitted to get into
such a condition as It has been in the
Enforce tho regulations.
Will Roberts moved yesterday
from his old homo on North Washing
ton street to. a now home on Main
street. Mr. Roberts leased his house on
North Washington, to J. M. 7.lke,
who will occupy It soon.
