day lie had listened, without apparent
emotion, to tho stories of tho men
who had witnessed tho killing of Foo-
shee and did not seem to care wheth
'or the evidence went for or against
him. During tho afternoon many of
tho witnesses contradicted them
selves. Men got up and swore to to
tally different versions with such
