(Moulding of Knid will introduce a Mil in the next legislature, which convenes in January, authorizing and ordering the lnards of county com missioners throughout the state to appropriate a stipulated sum as preiif- nuns at county fairs and live stock shows for the best exhibits. The bill provides that on petition of a majority of t-o taxpayers of any county the board of county com missioners shall appropriate from the county a eum equal to one-tenth of a mill on the assessed valuation in the county. If the contingent fund lias not this amount credited, then the commissioners shall levy a spe cial tax to cover t:lie cxixnse. With the death of Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy two Kansas Citians advance to conspicuous places in the direction of the Chris Hon Science church. These men are Adam H. Dickey, one of the directors of the church, and Alfred Fallow, a doctor of Chris tian Science and chairman of the publicity committee of the Finst Church in Hoston. Hoth theHp men were summoned to Hoston iby Mrs. KdJy from Kansas City, where they hud attained prominence in the af fairs of the church. The directors have taken full charge of affairs. They are supreme in the Mother Church and its branch es. These directors are Mr. Dickey, Archibald Mcl-ellan, Stephen A. Chase. Allison Stewart and John Dit- temore. They were the personal nominees of Mrs. Kddy, but they are a self-perpetuating liody. Their pow ers include matters of discipline, of organization and of finance. Mr, Mctallan Is editor of the per iodical issued in thUi city and Is a native of Moncton, N. B. Mr. Chase is the treasurer of the Mother Church and a resident of Fall River. Mr. Stewart Is the publisher of Mrs.' Kddy's works and was born in Penn sylvania; Mr. Dlttemore, who Is a clerk of the organization, comes from Indianapolis, and Mr. Dickey, recent ly appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Ira O. The service will close with the reading of the "Sci entist Statement of IVing" and the benediction. Askew, state game and fbfli warden, has requested the national depart ment of agriculture to grant permis sion for the transfer of a herd of elks from the Yellowstone National park to the Wichita park and game reserve. It permission U granted, Frank Rush, custodian of the Wich ita park, will go to Wyoming and bring the elk to this state. The Elks order started this movement at their TOP Avenue Hotel and H.oo. Oklahoma City overnight. last state convention at Lawton. It Is claimed that many of the elks die each winter in Wyoming on account of the severity of the climate and that the 'Wichita park offers every advantage for their care and that the transfer of a herd will be the means of their increase.
