ADAM'S NAIVETE.
A Woman l>#*f©nd« thr Fin>t Man From
Charges of Cowardice.
And the Lord said, "Hunt thou ente«
o. tho tree whereof I commanded tlrco
t! on slrouldht i.ot eat?' The man said,
"The woman whom thon gavent to bo
with me—she gave me of the tree and 1

a addition to hearing tho consequences

We are gl.id, therefore, that even after
O.ti' tt year» of unmerited condemnation
which the memory of our great pro
t nitor has had to bear there ha« nrwen
o-e person who dares to «peak for him.
A i it is all tho more fortunate that
t mt person j< a woman—n member of
tbo «ex whom Adam's words, by a
w rong interpretation, were held to havo
n aligned. This ]a*rson is Mrs. Carolina
F. Corbin, a distinguished authoress. In
ter latest Issik she says of Adam's plea:
"This is not the expression of cow
a. dice, but of the innocent and native
« -lief that anything which this lovely
hmg, fresh from God's hand, proposed
must lie right, and right or wrong
n list Ire done. It is n trait which has
C' me down in unbroken continuity of
inheritance to the latest born of Adam's
r jns."
The thought is n new one, but there is
u it a man alive aud capable of appreci

■ >t Indorse it. Where is there a man to
ri iy, barring n, few crusty old bachelors,
v ho would not have done the mine thing
under like circumstance»! 1 The woman

Adam was an unsophisticated, ingenious

FOR INVENTIONS.
fîquaî with the interest of those having claims against the government is
that of INVENTORS, w ho often lore the benefit of valuable inventions because
of the incompetent y or inattention of the attorneys employed to obtain their
patents. Too much care cannot be exercised in employing competent and reli
able solicitors to procure patents, for the value of a patent depends greatly, if not
entirely, upon the care and skill e* the attorney.
With the view of protecting inventors from worthless or careless attorneys
and of seeing that inventions are well protected by valid patents, we have re
mined counsel expert in patent practice, and therefore are prepared to
Obtain Patents in the United Sûtes and all Foreign Countries, Conduct In
terferences. Make Special Examinations. Prosecute Rejected Cases,
Register Trade-Marks and Copyrights, Render Opinions os to
Scone and Validity of Patents, Prosecute and
' Defend Irfringement Suits, Etc., Etc.
If von ha\e an invention on hand send a sketch or photograph thereof, to.
gether witL a brief description of the important features, aud you will be at once
advised as to the best course to pursue. Models are seldom necessary. I!
