This will require a little prac tice, but will be well worth the trouble. In cur first lesson of this series we saw Obstinate and Pliable trying to discourage Christian from bis new course, which ended with Pliable be ing persrtided to take the journey with him. When the Pilgrim has dong his best j and cannot by bln own strength get j out of the mire, then comes Help and 1 tays. "Give me thv hand." This kind Read messenger comes from Christ, flow Paul was thus delivered from the Slough of Despond (II Cor. 12; 8-9). Çne of the first questions Help asked of Christian was, why did he not look for the steps watch had been placed by the Lawgiver through the midst of the Slough. What a natural ques tion. Surely the loving Heavenly Father would not allow' a swamp In the path of his children without placing steps across It. These steps are, God's promises, God's commands, God's love, communier, with Him. and service for Him and our fellow men. These will cany us over any Slough. How neces sary that we pray and read the Bible every day, that we may always be able to find theee steps when needed. And don't forget that last step, ser vice. The Pliables who fall are usually those whose religion Is merely what somebody has told them, without foundation on God's word or experi ence In Christian living and serving. "Whenever you are feeling blue Something for someone else go do." Most Christians are liable to have times of despondency, or as we com monly call It, tha blues. Remember that the best way out of the Slough of Despond Is to help someone else out. This swamp Is different from others. You may be sinking Into deepest mire, but give a helping hand to someone at your side and you will find it is helping you out as well. The more thar we help others bear their burdens, tho lighter ours will be. "To ease another's heartache is to forget one's own." Christian Endeavor News.
