I jv*" Strike Is at An End. So far as the Knight Printing com pany ot Fargo is concerned the print ers' strike is ended. The well known printing establishment 'came to an agreement with the Fargo Typographi cal Union Tuesday and a formal con tract was entered into yesterday for one year. The Knight Printing com pany agrees to employ only union labor and adopts the eight-hour day. Knight Printing company, Fargo Printing company. Gross Bros., In dependent Printing company of Moor bead and the Moorlicad Citizen are all i:nlon job printing shops. The Call and the Forum are also union shops. Walker Bros. & Hardy, the Porte com pany and the Moorhead News continue to maintain so-called "open" shops. A New Thcnt«r. A dispatch from Winnipeg says: "Ground will be broken this morning on the property fronting on Smith street between Notre Dame and I"3llice avenues, for the new theatre to be erected by C. P. Walker, the present lessee and manager of the Winnipeg theater. Messrs. Kelly Bros., Mitchell, Ltd., have been awarded the contract for the excavations and foundations, ready to receive the structural steel. The balance of the contracts will bo let as soon as the necessary details and specifications can be gotten out by the architect, II. C. Stone of Mon treal and Winnipeg. Stuck in Snow llnnk. The Great Northern Dulutli train did not reach the city 'intil 2 o'clock this morning, being six hours late. The delay was caused by a couple of freight trains stuck in the cut at Be noit. All the trains were more or less late this morning. Train 2 being live hours late. Yesterday morning the Duluth train was run to this city to accommodate the Crookston and east ern traffic as Train 5 was eight hours late. Will Be Back Soon. A friend in this city of Henry Hei menz, former foreman of the Plain dealer, is in receipt of a postal which bears this inscription: "Like the cat I will be back soon." This would indi cate that Henry will return to Grand Forks in the near future. He went west some time ago to look the coun try over and his postal comes from Spokane, Wash. An Objcct Lesson. Just an object lesson in the virtue of advertising: Two young men were overheard in the following conversa tion today: "I am going to blow my self for a watch Saturday night. Sargent of Larimore is the guest of his aunt and uncle. Mr. and Mrs. W. Brundage today. Mr. Sargeant is on his way back to Iowa where visit relatives and arrange for moving his family to North Dakota. Yesterday afternoon the adjustment committee of the county commission ers met at the court house and report ed on tax rcbatements. They made a careful examination of all complaints and in some instances ordered rebate ot taxes and in others left the ap praisment of the assessor stand. Dr. A. L. McDonald Moves. Dr. A. L. McDonald, who has had offices with Dr. Taylor in the First National bank building, will remove the first of April to the Security build ing. He will occupy offices in the front of the building on the second fioor, near the offices of Dr. Healy. W. C. T. (J. Meeting. There will be a special meeting of the W. C. T. U. in the parlors ot the Baptist church from 3 to 5 o'clock Friday afternoon The principal fea ture will be the talk by Mrs. Webster on her experiences as a missionary in Africa. Putting in Windows. Yesterday the work was begun by the contractors of installing the win dows in the new federal building. As the boards are torn out and the win dows put in, the structure begin to as sume something of a completed and stately appearance. Newest for Ladies. The Lady Elks will give a dancing party on Thursday evening, April 19, and invitations are being sent out for the same. This morning Rev. and Mrs. J. M. Beadles and the other delegates from Grand Forks returned from the great missionary convention at Fargo. It was the fiftii great convention held in the United States this year and was most interesting and instructive from start to finish. There was a large attendance from over the state and the sessions were all of a high order, there being bishops and noted missionaries from all over the world in attendance. Will Open Bids. Next Monday Chief Runge and the fire committee of the city council will u|u:ii bids for the new combination chemical wagon and hose cart, it is a modern and handsome fire fighting machine and will cost in the neighbor hood of 1,600. Chief Runge is a firm believer in the use of chemicals in small fires, there being less damage in putting out fires aid it is much more effective in out-of-the-way places than water. Will Begin Early. The brickyard to be established this spring by J. It. Poupore on North Third street, just outside the city lim its, will be in working order in. the early spring. The machinery will shortly arrive and be installed, and the dry sheds erected as soon as |m., sibio. Mr. Poupore expects to be in a position lo make brick just as eariy and just as large quantities as any yard in the northwest. ls Ready for Business. The supplies for the new Northwest ern National Insurance company have been completed and are now in the hands of the agents. A. L. Woods, who represents the company in this city and who is also a director in the com pany, has received his supplies and is ready for business. He wrote his first policy yesterday and expects to be very busy at policy writing for some weeks to come. Schwam Has Big Sale. Today George Schwam, the South Third street clothier, has inaugurated a big sale at his place of business, 123 South Third street. He is offering some great bargains in men's and boys' clothing and boots and shoes. He is making the sweeping reduction of 25 [er cent on this class of goods. Shriners Will Make Pilgrimage. Preparations are being made for a ilgrimage to Los Angeles, Cal., from fill over the United States to visit the twenty-second annual session of the Imperial council. 'A cheap fare will be made and as the season of the year is most propitious, May 7 to 11, it is ex pected that there will be a big crowd. A number are planning on going from Grand Forks and Fargo. Enjoyable Meeting. Yesterday afternoon the Ladies' Aid of the Baptist church met with Mrs. Louis Campbell at her home on Cotton wood street. In spite of the inclement weather, there was a good attendance and a very pleasant afternoon spent. Refreshments were "rH and the usual program carried oat Will Go to St Paul. This evening Judge Templeton will leave for St Paul where he will take deputation in some insurance matters. The case is that of Torgeson & Ecke berg of Hoople vs. the Redfield Insur ance company. D. Grimson, a graduate of the uni versity who has been doing post-grad uate work in the Northwestern univer sity, has returned to the city and joined the senior law class. He will take his degree in the law this spring and will then be ready to keep the wayfaring man out of the paths of evil. Ladles' Night. A number of ladies have signified their desire to become hypnotic sub jects for Prof. McEwen, and it is un derstood that this privilege will be afforded them tomorrow night. Children's Day. There will be a meeting of the Young People's society at Trinity church tomorrow evening. Prepara tions are being made for children's day at this church April 8. Goes to the Coast. Attorney R. S. Enge left today for Iowa, where he will visit for some time and then go to the coast, proba bly to California, where he will locale for the practice of his profession. Will Meet Tomorrow Night.
