Lew Smith, the man who ran away with Mrs. Mabbitt and her children, of Denbigh, N. D., has written to his former employer, Jake Wagar. His letter is dated from Vermillion, South Dakota. He states that he had a ter rible time getting away and that he has found a job and gone to work, but as to happenigs in East Grand Forks he says nothing. His letter throws no light on the whereabouts of Mrs. Mabbitt, who was last seen in Grand Forks. Ernest Mabbitt has ap plied for a divorce in an Indiana court Sorenson-Pravitz. A wedding ceremony was solemn ized at Medbery, N. D., last Thurs day evening, that is of interest over the state, when Mr. William Soren son and Miss Emily M. Pravitz were united in marriage by Rev. T. M. Hancock, assisted by Rev. W. J. Med land. In the case at Emerson where in landlord Durand was accused by at torney Forester of setting fire to the Strathcona hotel', the two magistrates sitting in hearing disagreed after a week's deliberation and it is said that the examination will be held over again. Looking over the evidence as reported in the papers there seems to he no direct evidence whatever against Mr. Durand and the circumstantial' evidence is very weak, no motive ap pearing. But two magistrates at a hearing in a peculiar sort of juris prudence and is unknown in this country.—Hamilton Pioneer Press. Making Changes. Tonight will be All-Hallowe'en, the evening so long looked forward to with apprehension by the man with a front gate and with expectant joy by the youngster whose parents will permit him to roam abroad. While of late years the depredations of the small boy have become less serious, until now they are only of the most harmless sort and carried on by youngsters of 7 or 3 years, yet there are some of the older ones who do not content themselves with harmless pranks but resort to willful and mall clous destruction of property. The police intend to prevent, so far as it lies in their power, the depredations which usually mark the coming ot Oct. 31. On Overtime. Matrimonial matters were busy around the office of the county judge today. Applicants for marriage li censes were actually waiting their turns. Thomas J. Howard and Miss Sarah F. One of the most enthusiastic meet ings of the entire republican campaign In the state was that at Bottineau ad dressed by Senator McCumber. Bot tineau was considered the hot bed of opiKisltion to the state ticket by those who are attempting to knife It, but the rousing republican rally indicates that the republicans there will not be caught with chaff and thev turned out by hundreds to hear the address. Not less than a thousand men gathered to hear this able defender of genuine re publican principles draw the deadlv parallel between the two parties and show that the democratic claims to anything like ability to condust the af talrs of the nation or state is simply preposterous. The enthusiasm ran mountains high and on every hand was the assurance of a straight vote for the entire republican ticket. Dont fall to read Kelsey Develop, ment Co.'s ad In this issue. Visit Store.
