The three last named filing their oath of office and taking their seat as representing ibeir several districts. On motion of Mr. Thompson, sec onded by Mr. Haddow, Mr. P. N. Kors mo was elected chairman of the board for the ensuing year. On motion the bond of Don McDon ald as county treasurer in the sum of $75,000.00 furnished by the United States Fidelity and Guaranty company of Baltimore, Md., was approved ar.d ordered placed on file. On motion the temporary bond of Helen Prindeville as county superin tendent of schools was approved in the sum of $500.00. The board of county commissioners proceeded to check up the accounts of the retiring county treasurer, J. R. Poupore as per th? requirements of section 1255 of the revised code of ]?99 and section J570 of the revised cyde of 1905. On motion the temporary bonl of O. 6. Hanson as sheriff of Grand Forks county, North Dakota, was ap proved in the sum of $5,000.00. On motion the bond of L. K. Hassell as judge of the county court in the sum of $2,000.00 was approved. After some dis cussion and on motion of Mr. Murphy, seconded by Mr. Haddow, that the Evening Times be designated the offi cial paper of the county for the en suing year. The vote on this motion was recorded as follows: Murphy, Poupore and Haddow voting yes. Thompson and Korsmo voting no. The motion carried and the Evening Times was therefore designated as the offi cial paper of the county of Grand Forks for the year 1907. On motion of Mr. Poupore, seconded by Mr. Murphy Mr. P. J. Mahan was appointed superintendent of the coun ty poor farm and hospital for one year commencing March 1st, 1907, at a salary of $50 per month. Commis sioners Poupore, Murphy and Haddow voting yes Commissioners Thompson and Korsmo voting no. Motion car ried. On motion of Mr. Poupore, seconded by Mr. Murphy, Mrs. P. J. Mahon was appointed matron of the county hos pital at Arvllla for one year com mencing March 1st, 1907 at a salary of $25.00 per month. Poupore, Mur phy and Haddow voting yes Korsmo and Thompson voting no. Motion carried. On motion of Mr. Mbrphy, seconded by Mr. Poupore Dr. S. H. Irwin was appointed county physician for the first and eight districts at a salary of $675.00 per year during year 1907. On motion of Mr. Poupore, seconded by Mr. Haddow Dr. C. J. McGurrin was appointed physician for the sec ond district and county hospital at Arvilla at a salary of $300.00 per year during year 1907. On motion of Mr. Haddow, seconded by Mr. Thompson Dr. R. M. McLean was appointed county physician for the fourth and fifth districts at a sal ary of $150.00 per year during year 1907. On motion Dr. James Halliday was appointed county physician for the third district at a salary of $100.00 per year during year 1907. On motion Dr. O. T. Peterson was appointed county .physician for the sixth district at a salary of $125.00 per year during year 1907. On motion Dr. C. A. McKay was appointed county physician for the seventh district at a salary of $75.00 per year, during year 1907. On motion John McLeod was ap pointed janitor of the court house for one year at a salary of $75.00 per month. t, On motion Dr. A. A. Westeen was appointed commissioner of insanity for 1907 and 1908. On motion Dr. H. H. Healy was ap pointed superintendent of county board of health. On motion Alex Stewart was ap pointed vice president of county board of health. On motion of Mr. Thompson, sec onded by Mr. Haddow the sheriff was authorized to employ a jailor for the county jail at a salary of $75.00 per month, and the sheriff allowed 50 cents per day for boarding each pris oner while confined in county jail during the year 1907. On motion the bill of J. R. Poupore for balance of salary for year 1906 in the sum of $100.00 was allowed. On motion the board adjourned un til January 9th, 1907 at 9 o'clock a. m. Mc Mahon as superintendent of the poor farm and county hospital was approv ed and ordered placed on file. On motion the communication from the states attorney in reference to chapter 162 session laws of 1901 was read and„ordered placed on file. The petition of Swift & Co., praying for a reduction in their assessed val uation of personal property in the city of Grand Forks for the year 1906, claiming that the city assessor of said city assessed Swift & Co. for two refrigerator cars which did not belong to said company. On motion the peti tion was granted and the assessed valuation of said company reduced from $3090.00 to $1S86.00 and the aud itor Instructed to make the necessary change on tax list for said year. On motion the communication of states attorney recommending that the county construct a work house, where prisoners confined in the coun ty jail be compelled to do some work to recompense the county in part for the expense of their keeping, was read and ordered placed on file. On motion of Mr. Poupore, seconded by Mr. Thompson Mr. Murphy was made chairman pro tern. The following resolution introduced by Mr. Thompson and seconded by Mr. Poupore was unanimously adopt ed: Resolved, that the proposals for the deposit of county funds submitted by the several banks in the county be accepted and the following banks be designated as county depositories for county funds of the county, when their bonds are approved by the board of county commissioners in ttte sum fixed opposite each as provided by section 1941 R. All members voting yes. The petition of George Price for cancellation of taxes on building situ ate on lots 19 and 20, block 6, Budge & Esh'elman's third addition to Grand Forks city. North Dakota, for years 1904 and 1905 was on motion granted for the reason said buildings being property that escaped taxation for said years and reassessed and equal ized July, 1906, said lots and building thereon had been transferred to George Price February 1906, such transfer having been made in good faith, all taxes then as shown by the records of county having been paid therefor this assessment is not legal as against George Price. Chairman P. N. Korsmo came in and took his seat as chairman of the board of county commissioners. On motion the board adjourned un til January 10th, 1907 at 9 o'clock a. m. Allen, members of school board dis trict No. 61 appeared before the board of county1 commissioners and agreed to refund school taxes col lected in that portion of former school district No. 15 for year 1905, said levy having been declared Illegal by decree and judgment of the district court, December the 21st, 1906. On motion of Mr. Poupore, seconded by Mr. Thompson redemption was au thorized of blocks 1 to 9 Inclusive, original townslte of Ojata tor the taxes of 1902, 1903, 1904 and 1905 at the amount of tax without 'penalty and interest from date of sale. The board proceeded to open bids for wood tor county, and upon motion the contract tor supplying 300 cords of dry hard wood delivered on court house grounds was let to Robert West ecott at $6.60 per cord of 4 foot wood. C. of 1905 the salary of county auditor was fixed at $2000.00 for year 1907. Under section 2598 R. C. of 1905 the salary of county treasurer was fixed at $2400.00 for year 1907. 'Under section 2594 R. C. of 1906 the salary of the register of deeds was fixed at $2000.000 for year 1907. Under section 2578 R. C. of 1905 the salary of the states attorney was fixed at $2000.00 per year and that of assistant states attorney fixed at $900.00 for the year 1907. Under section 2580 R. C. of 1905 the salary of the clerk of the district court was fixed at $2000.00 for year 1907. Under section 2586 R. C. of 1905 the salary of the county judge was fixed at $1800.00 for year 1907 and under section 9363 R. C. of 1905 an addi tional sum amounting to $397.41 for said year on account of druggists' permits, etc. Under section 777 R. C. of 1906 the salary of the county superintendent of schools was fixed at $1740.00 per year and under same section the 'safe ary of deputy superintendent of schools was fixed at $870.00 for year 1907. On motion of Mr. Haddow, seconded by Mr. Murphy the following clerk hire was authorized in the several county offices during the year 1907 at a monthly salary placed opposite each and the county auditor was authorized to draw warrants monthly in pay ment of the same while so employed, viz: County Auditor's Office.
