Dec. 1.—The depart ment of labor in a formal statement denies that interned German sailors in camp at Hot Springs, N. C., are being provided by the government with ex pensive food, .but admitted the pris oners are receiving comforts denied the American soldiers. Interned German officers and man are quartered in a big hotel at the fashionable mountain resort An offl oer of the public health service looks after sanitation at the eamp. "Arrangements are also made," the labor department statement explains, "so that married men may have op portunity to see their families once1. a week." This is in conflict with the policy of the war department which has ad vis ed army officers that the plan of hav ing wives and families quartered near camps and cantonmepts is looked up^ on with disfavor. 1 "There is no warrant for the state ment that these aliens are allowed an excessive amount of food," the de partment says. "Three meals a day of plain but thoroughly palatable and substantial food are provided for each man."
