Iast Biggest Week in History of Crookston Closed Last Saturday Night. The biggest week of public activity ever staged in Polk county closed Saturday night when the several or ganizations that united in the Farm Crop and Stock show, who were able to carry out in detail eVery part of their program, demobilized. The city women won both prizes for the most practical school dress and the thrift exhibit, and the coun try women won first and the city sec ond prizes for the most practical house dress. The food contest was keen and an excellent exhibit had been gathered from all parts of th'e county and city, though the city ex hibitors had the advantage, as they held a premilinary contest in the various school houses and the best of these exhibits were shown, conse quently the city ladies won out. Polk County Boys Win. In the students' class canning ex hibits, Roger Briden, district No. 181, Polk county, won first prize, and Oscar Hoiseth won second in the corn exhibit sweepstakes. Helma Brundin was third. In the Polk county contest con ducted by the farm bureau, early po tatoes, first went to Loren Wheeler second, Roger Briden third, Hjalmer Brundin fourth, Helen Bjorgo. Heavy Increase In Fire Losses Reported By Minnesota Marshal S(. Paul, Feb. 17.—The monthly report of the Minnesota fire marshal, issued today, ssowed a heavy fire loss increase for January. The total was $684,509 compared with $451,754 for January 1918. Minneapolis and Du luth reported decreased losses but St. Paul reported an increase. SAILORS ARE GREETED.
