The above reasons are due to un
usual war demands. A'normal, natural
economic action was-wording in this
line before the great catastrophe.
America will know ho more free food.
The stock raiser feeds his stock on
expensive grains—even grass fed, or
pasture stock grazes upon land the
stockman has bought, and pays taxes
on. A few years ago quantities of
beef stock fed on government lands.
Now also the workler, whether far
mer's family or employe, must have
just returns for his time and effort.
So more does the farm woman give
her time raising eggs and chickens for
nothing nor does any woman's wom
I an want her to.
Our standards are higher, too, and
we would rather pay for wholesome
food than run the risk of a big doc
tor's bill.

Chocolate Brownies.
1 cup sugar.
cup melted buttfcr.
1 unbeaten egg.
2 squares melted chocolate.
teaspoonful vanilla.
cup flour.
1 teaspoon baking powder.
Ms cup pecan nut meats.
Mix the butter and sugar, add the
unbeaten egg. melted chocolate and
vanilla sifted with the baking powder
and the nut meats. Spread the mix
ture in a pan covered-with greased
paper and bake in a slow oven. Cool
and cut into squares or diagonal
