D., April 26.—Through action taken by the county commis sioners* at their regular monthly meeting, about a mynth ago in ap pointing a committee to investigate (he possibility of obtaining the re leaseof several Ward county patients from the state hospital at Jamestown, about 16 inmates will be released from that institution within the next few weeks, according to Petfcr Van denoever, one of the committee ap pointed to ivestlgate the matter. Paul, Minn., April 25—Counsel for mining companies seeking a per manent Injunction to restrain the state from collecting, an occupational tax on iron ore mined In. Minnesota com pleted their arguments in federal dis trict court today and the state began summing up its argument. ,The arguments centered around the question of when Iron ore becomes a commodity in interstate commerce. Counsel for the companies contended the ore is in Interstate commerce from the time It is scooped up by steam shovels In the open pits and under this status they claim it is pro tected from taxation by the federal constitution, which prohibits placing of a burden upon Interstate commerce. The state, however, asserted that .mining is an occupation in itself, separate from interstate commerce, and that the ore does not become sub ject to federal regulation until de livered to the common carrier for shipment to other states. The hearing will continue tomor row. EXPECT BANKERS' CONVENTION TO BE LARGEST ON RECORD Minot, tf. IX, April 26.—The an nual convention of the North Dakota IBankers* association, which will be held in Minot June 15 and 16. will be one of-the largest** gatherings of the year and is expected to bring 600 to. 1.000 visitors to the city, the number depending' on the weather. Many will come by automobile. A feature of the gathering will be the 3ankers' band of 30 or 35 pieces 'to be directed bjf.,Dr. C. S. Putnam of Fargp. It is^'ebmposed of members of the association and has done some retnarkably good work in the past. It Is likely the convention will be held in the new,Scottish Rite cathe dral which is the most conveniently located convention hall dn the city and which will by that time have connected with the Association of Commerce rooms which are to be utilised during large gatherings. This will be the first time the state assodlatlon has met in this city in six or seven years.
