LITTLE ALMA,
•'All tlulel *«•«■ tue » , »««"»" c '"
The Sheriff said.
Kverything was quiet as regards the
little daughter of Mr. and Mra. H. For
ter Ashe yoaterday, and none of tbe de
velopments of a sensational character as
was expicted by many, came to light.
There were, as usual in such ca~cs, many
wild rumore flying about the etreel, but
thow who knew anything about the
case were of the opinion that there would
be no more developtueutt until Wednes
day next. Sheriff Kays, beiug rather
uneasy under the responsibility which
rests on him while the child is iv bis
po- session, was at tbe Nadeau
House bright and early yesterday morn
ing, aud during the day he win not far
away. At half past 2 o'clock ha took
little Alma for a drive in oompauy with
Mrs. E. B. Crocker, the grandmother,
and the nurse. The carriage was a close
one, but the party enjoyed the drivt
immensely, especially the little caueo of
all the present trouble. They drove
through the western portiou of the city,
along Figueroa street aad Main and re
turned at about 5 o'olook in tbe after
noon. After dinner little Alma was
laken for a short walk by Deputy
Sheriff Auderaon, in company
with her grandmother aud nurse, and
those who knew who the party conaisted
of, g«z.td nt them in curiosity aa they
passed by. Little Alma waa not out of
the sight of either the Sheriff or hia dep
uty all day long, and her meals were
served iv her room while tbe rest of tbe
family dined and lunched down stairs.
Sheriff Kays stated tbat he had made
arrangements so that he could be on the
scene in ten minutes after the first
alarm, iv case anything should happeu.
He did not anticipate that anything
would happeu, however, but he thought
best to make all preparations possible.
As the ohild is in his possession he in
tends to carry out the order of the court
and allow either party to see it at any
time, but he dees not propose to lei it
out of his possession.
Tbe eases of R. Porter aud bis brother
Sidney Asbe charged with carrying con
cealed weapons, was set for trial to-day
before Justice Austin, but K. Porter
Ashe baring gone to Sacramento will
probably not return in time and the bail
will have to be foifeited or else tbe case
postponed.

The game yesterday botweeu the Los
Angeles and Pomonas, waa very inter
esting and was witnessed by about
2500 spectators. The Los Angeles club
made a very pretty showing in their
bright new uniforms. The most notice
able feature of tho game was the tine
team work of the Los Angeles Club and
McComas, Smith and Bruce of the Pl
monas. George's home run hit iv the
seventh inning was also ft feature. Mon
roe was hit over the eye iv the third in
ning and it was cut badly. Lohinan with
more I rac'ice will make a good back

catcher to be a hard man to hit.
