LOCAL EVENTS.
fhe Democratic City Central
Committee Meets.
THE DELEGATE. APPORTIONED.
The Wolfskill Depot to be Opened
Shortly—An "Empty" Gun
Goes Off.
The Democratic City Contra! Commit
tee met last evening in the Iroquois*
clnb rooms, Judge B. £. Taney in too
Chair, and a full representation present.
The manner of selecting delegates to the
convention was discussed at some length
and a number of Democrats from the
various wards were invited to give their
views on the subject, so that some plan
might be adopted that would be satisfac
tory to all. It was decided that the con
vention should consist of 150 members,
to be apportioned according to the Demo
cratic vote at the Presidential election. A
committee was appointed to make tbe
apportionment and to recommend
to tie City Central Committee
the plan for selecting the delegates. The
City Central Committee then adjourned
until this evening at 7 o'clock. The
committee appointed then went to work
and, after a study of the vote and consul
tation with the representatives of the
various wards, decided to recommend an
apportionment as follows: First Ward,
14 delegates; Second Ward, 25; Third
Ward, 20; Fourth Ward, 15; Fifth Ward,
6; Sixth Ward, 8; Seventh Ward, 25;
Eighth Ward, 29, and Ninth Ward, V.
It was also decided to recommend that
the delegates be selected in precinct
caucusses, and that these be held oa
Wednesday, the Slat, the convention to
be called for Sa'urday, the 16th. Actios
will be taken on these recommendations
to-night.
THE WOLFsKILb DEPOT.
Tbree New Stallone to be Estr-b-
U.hed Iv Town.
It was announced yesterday at the
Southern Pacific headquarters in this
city that the remeval to the new depot
will be accomplished in a week or ten
days from date. The track over the
Pine-street route is laid, and will be
ballasted and finished up by to-morrow
night, when it will be formally turned
over to the operating department. The
train dispatchers are hard at work on a
new time-card made necessary by the
change, and this will be put into effect
on the day of removal. As regards the
running of trains, they will run into the
new depot directly from east and west,
and will be switched in the Wolfskin
yards. Some new stations are also to
be establi hed in the city, and the
workmen will commence on them to
day. There will be a ticket office and
xtation at the V at the junction of Upper
Main and Alameda streets, and this will
be known as Naud's Junction. There
will be one at tbe west end of the river
bridge, the other end of the V, which
will be called Mission Junction, and one
where the Santa Monica road meets the
San Pedro line at the ease end of the
Pine-street route. Tbe present depot on
San Fernando street will retain its name
of Lob Angeles Station, ami the new de
pot will be known as Wolfekill.
Another "Empty Unn.'t
The public were nearly supplied with
another tragedy through a little episode
that occurred in the Tufts-Lyons gun
store on Wednesday night. A gentleman
entered tbe store and requested to see
some pistols, with a view to purchasing
one. He was handed several, and while
examining them and trying the triggers,
one, of 45 caliber, exploded, the ball
diking against tbe wall. It rebounded
and glanced back across lbe counter,
striking Mr. Tuft on thehandand remov
ing tbe skin from bis fingers. It appears
that ihe pistol bad been used and laid
a-ide with one load still remaining in it,
this being, of course, unknown to the
proprietors of tbe establishment.
Burlington Changes.
On tbe 28th inst. the Burlington will
resume its East-bound excursion busi
ness, under the able management, in
this city, of Mr. J. B. Quigley. A tour
ist party will be sent out each week,
.oing alternately over the Denver and
Rio Graode and the Union Pacific.
Ou and after to-day, owing to the large
increase of business, tbe office in this
city will be augmented in force. Mr. T.
H. Dugan has arrived from San Fran
cisco, and will act as freight agent, while
Mr. Quigley will be assisted by Mr. Lov
f 11, who will bo on hand to-day for the
first time, as ticket agent.
| Another Orange Special.
The Santa Fe's first orange special
this season left town yesterday, and
consisted of thirteen carloads. It will
he sent through in a hurry, and hereafter
the company announces orange trains
will leave every other day.
The Southern and Union Pacific
special which left on Wednesday picked
up another car at San Fernando, which,
with one more received from Colton,
brings the total up to sixteen cars. The
Southern Pacific and Union Pacific will
run specials every Wednesday and Fri
day hereafter, and wili send them
through on passenger time.
Imported Horses.
There have just arrived some fine,
imported stallions. Holbnrt, Stimson
& Co. have imported from England six
full-blooded coach and English shire
and Cleveland bay bred stallions. They
are now on exhibition at the I. X. L.
Stables, 726 South Main street. Ihese
stallions, besides possessing the oldest
and purest strains of blood in England,
are all fine looking and of the highest
grade. It is something much needed in
this country, and will have a tendency
to improve the stock of useful horses.
