The following offer was made by the Providencia Land and Water Company for the State Reform School: To the Board of Commissioners for the location of the State Reform School. Gentlemen —At the meeting of the Board of Directors held on April Bth, 1889, (he following resolution was adopted: "Be it resolved, That the Providencia Land, Water and Development Com pany will donate to the State Reform School for boys, eighty acres of land with water stock in the Laguna Irrigation Company, representing eight inches for irrigatio 1 and sewerage purposes, and that we will lay pipes and deliver pure spring water from the mountains from the Burbank water systsm for domestic purposes upon the same terms and conditions that are furnished property owners in the town of Burbank." We state further that there is an abun dance of first-class foundation stone on onr property, near the land offered, which the State can have without charge. There is also a fine quality of clay for making brick very near the proposed site, and that brick can be made very cheaply, probably not to exceed $6 dol lars per thousand. The purest and bent of water for domestic use can be had by boring from fifteen to thirty feet, and water could be pumped into a reservoir on the roof of the building at a very small expense. The land offered is of the tinest quality, and will produce any thing that grows in Southern California. The l.as Angeles and Pacific and the Southern Pacific Railroad Companies run many trains to and from Los An geles during the day, both roads being immediate to this property. The land is within eight miles of the, centre of the city of Los Angeles, and within five miles of the city limits. In point of healthful location nothing more desirable can be found in Southern California. The soil ia rich and entirely free from alkali or adobe. Tbe situation is elevated, commanding a view of the entire San Fernando Valley and a portion of the city of Los Angeles. Yours, very truly, L. T. Garnsey, President Providencia L. & W. Co. Los Angeles, April 9, 1889. • Depot Jottings. A Denver and Rio Grande excursion will leave for tbe East to-night. The trip from Los Angeles to the Paris Exposition can be made in eighteen days. A lunch counter is being placed in th«j chief waiting-room of the VVolfskill depot. Mr. D. M. True, Passenger Agent in this territory for the Pennsylvania Rail road, has returned from Ban Francisco. He will leave for Santa Barbara to-day. The Pacific overland, No. 20, which should have arrived here on Sunday evening, did not pull in until noon yes terday. The cause of delay was a freight wreck near El Paso. Messrs. J. W. Adams, of the Chicago and Alton, and Frank Phillips, of the Phillips Excursion Company, have gone to Portland, where they are about to es tablish a Walker & Phillips excursion agency. Mr. Eli Deniaon, the proprietor of the peanut routes on the Southern Pacific, who has been attending the spring meet ing here, left last night for the noitd, leaving, however, his wife and family here.
