Mr. Stadord Jess, a banker from Po mona, snd one of that fair city's solid men, was in Los Angeles yesterday. Mrs. M. G. Darling, of San Francisco, is visiting her mother, Mrs. M.G.Wright of Los Angeles, and will remain some weeks. Mr. Maurice Clark, Superintendent of the Red Rover mines at Aoton, is in the city. He is stopping at ths Hollenbeck. t Mr. Burt Har wood is in tbe city, he recently returned from Arizona and reports bnsiness as being rather quiet in the Territory. Chas. H. Shattuck is in the city, show ing the "prints" what fine "color" is. It is, all right if Charlie will not go into "painting the town." SKWfs MH'Jtis. At 1 o'clock this afternoon tbe swim ming match for $250 will ba decided from the North Beach at Santa Monica. There is alio a baseball contest. Transfers of real estate yesterday amounted to $89,280 and were 68 in num. taer. Of these, 18 were for more than (IrOOO each and 28 were for nominal con siderations. The Law Students' Association will meet on Tuesday evening in Judge Van Dyke's courtroom and will listen to an address on "Remainders and Rever sions," by Hon. T. M. Mitchell. The principal office of Wells, Fargo & Co., corner Main and Arcadia streets, this city, will not be open for business on Sundays in future. Business accru ing on that day will be attended to at tbe company's offices at the Southern Pacific aud Santa Fe depots. A. H. Smith, formerly of the Sand wich Islands, now of Pomona, has or gt.nsi.-M] a "Surf Board Club" at the Ut ter town, and is having a number of the Hawaiian e-irf boats made to use among the breakers at Santa Monica. Mr. and Mrs Smith went down to Santa Monica yesterday to make a first trial. Tom Keefe, the well-known Franklin- Street contractor, has known David Na gle, who killed Terry, for the past thirty ojght years. He was an old-time friend ol Nagle's in tbe Territories and knows Ot a number of interesting events in the -life of the Deputy Marshal. Nagle is no amateur with the gun, and Terry is not the first by any means who has fallen a victim to his accurate aim. Criminal Note*. Constable Blanker, of Pomona, arrived here yesterday with Joseph Howard, who was sentenced by Justice Hall to .imprisonment in the County Jail lor sixty days for battery. The case of practicing medicine with out A license, referred against Dr. S. T .Barber, of Lancaster, by H. Norcross, was dismissed in Justice Savage's Court yesterday morning. Police Judge Stanton was occupied nearly the whole of yesterday in the pre liminary examination of Willie Jenkir.s Snd John Edwards who are charged with Laving robbed Dr. Swigart, of Barstow, qn the night of the 7th inst. The doc tor's testimony was all in at 8:30 o'clock last night, when the case was dismissed until 2:30 p. m. on Monday. N. B. Davis, an employee of the South ern Pacific Railroad Company, attempted suicide at the New United States Hotel a few nights ago in a somewhat novel 'manner. He climbed out upon the roof and attempted to sever an artery in his left arm with a pen-knife, but was dis covered in time. He was just recovering from a protracted spree and was de 'spondent. Coroner* loquetl Coroner Meredith held an inquest yesterday morning upon the body of (Joseph Treeangue, a native of France, 21 years of age, who died suddenly while at •work on Friday afternoon on the Work roan rancho at San Fernando. "French Joe," as the deceased Whs familiarly 'called, had been employed on the ranch for two years past, and on Friday morn ing while working with six ot tiers on a cleaning machine he complained of a headache, and was so overcome that he •leaned up against the elevator for a few minutes in a half fainting condition. He .then wont tj the bunk-house to lay down, and when half way there stopped to drink at a hydrant, but staggered and ifell. He staggered into the bunk-house where, he died. The jury returned a \ erlict of death from natural causes. A Supplement to be Printed. A supplement to the Great Register is to be printed for use at the approaching election. It will contain several hundred names. The city is to defray the ex .pense, as it will be of use only in tbe Municipal election. At the same time it is obvious that nearly all the voters whose names will go on there will vote cTr <rhe sewer and school bonds.
