Governor Waterman and wife arc in the city, and are stopping at the Nadeau. Mr. K. N. Wade, Mr. Dan McOool's successor, is at the Hollenbeck, having arrived in the city yesterday. Frank E. Young, the well-known con tractor, left laet evening for San Fran cisco on business pertaining to legal matters. R. A. Marshall, of the Burbank Timet, is out again, after undergoing the painful operation of amputating his arm. He is all right, too, after it, in which all his friends rejoice. George C. Hagar, the vineyardist and a well known resident of Orange, was in the city yesterday. He reports hie neighborhood thriving, matters having lately shown a decided improvement. Mr. J. S. Park, the genial cashier of the City Bank, has secured rooms for himself and family at the Melrose, where they will remain for the winter. Mr. Park intends erecting a handsome resi dence in the near future. M. S. Park and wife, J. W. McGriff, Libbie Higgins, Laura McConnell, Le Motile, ill.; E. L. Conger, raßadeiiu, John W. Davis, Colton, Oal.; Jud Saeger, St. Louis; A. F. Foster, New York; Mrs. M. Wyman, Miss Wyman, Omaha; F. C. Monk3ton and wife, San Fran cisco, are at the Westminster. Mr. J. P. Meehan, the handsome and stalwart representative of the Pullman Palace Car Company, is just now paying a brief visit to Loa Angeles. Mr. Mee han's delicate, hard and fine administra tion, in his notable executive trust, has made travel easy and luxurious for tens of thousands of people who have sought thia Coast in the last two or three years. Weyse yesterday was divorced from his wife. This is tlie first full stop in this celebrated case. Deputy Sheriff J. C. Wray went up latt night for more witnesses in the Wheeler murder trial, which takes place today. The entertainment and social of Young Mens' Institute No. 14, has been postponed to Tuesday evening, October 29th. The Elite Benevolent Society will give its first masquerade ball for the benefit of its relief fund at Turn Verain Hall or. November 7th. A musical entertainment will be given by SuDset Council, Royal Arcanum, at No. 150 South Main street on Thursday evening of next week. The well known insurance firm of Sum merland & Phelps has moved to more commodious quarters in the Burdick block, No. 25 Wast Second street. The Un'on has concluded to hold its picnic and barbecue at the City Gardens Sunday, November 3d. They intend to make this the event of the •ason. Transfers of real estate yesterday amounted to $83,611, and were 142 in number. Of these 14 were for more than 1,000 each, and 15 were for nominal con derations. he members of the Young Men's Catholic Institute postponed their ball, which was to have taken place last even ing, until Tuesday evening, the 29rh instant. Services will be held at the Synagogue this evening at 7:30, o'clock, with ser mon. Subject: "Parents and Their Children ; Their Mutual Duties." Satur day morning service at 10 a. m. At 9 o'clock this morning the taking of the testimony of the residents ofthe Ver non district, in regard to tbe effects of the sewage when nsed for irrigation, will be continued before the Sewer Commis sion. Every Sunday morning the Committee on Visitation of Sick, of the Young Mens' Christian Association, visits the County Hospital and distributes bouquets of flowers and reading matter. A meet ing is also held in connection with the visit. Ladies of the auxiliary of the association devote a part of Saturday afternoon in arranging flowers in bou quet*. Donations con be left at the association building, 109 South Fort Btreet, every Saturday. The Oxford League of Trinity M. E. church will hold its monthly social this evening at the residence of Mrß. Graves, corner of Twelfth and Olive streets. A choice programme has been arranged, including a series of beautiful tableaux, music, recitations, etc. The success that these socials have been attended with in tbe past is sufficient assurance that all will have a pleasant time. The friends of the League are all invited. About 7 o'clock last evening a delivery wagon belorgicg to L. Sent on p & Co., the Los Arjgeles-street butchers, while being driven across Main street was struck and upset by a atreet car. The driver of the wagon, J. P. Lassalle, was thrown to tho zround, and received several cuts on the head and body. He was conveyed to the police station receiving hospital for medi cal treatment, and after having bis wounds dressed was removed to his home on Upper Main street. R D. List, Notary Public.
