The temper of the room was bullish at tlrst, but soon changed. The traders, who had the floor to themselves, see-sawed prices back and forth between limits of small fractions throughout the day. At close a bet ter tone existed, and final prices are only in significant fractions different from thore of latt evening iv every stock ou the regular lists. Sugar, after fluctuating over a wider range than any other stock traded in, flnished.with net gains of % per cent. Government bonds were dull and steßdy. Petroleum opened steady at 103, and, after sligut improvement, became weak and declined to 102. In the last hour the market rallied, and close 1 firm at 102^.
