Young Rothschild and young de Gony
fight a duel with swords. They were
about to sail in the former's yacht on an
Oriental voyage. The mother of the lat
ter at the last moment heard that the
former's mistress accompanied him. She
hurried to the Baron Alphonse de
Rothschild and exposed the lamentable
fact. The Baron prevented the sailing
of the yacht and ordered his son to re
main in Paris. The mistress, who had
thus been forestalled of a good time,
transferred her hatred from the mother
de Gouy to the son de Gouy, and so
grossly insulted him in public that he
held his friend responsible. Young
Rothschild was punctured in the shoulder,
and the duel ended. The mot in Paris
is that the Baron's son saved bis honor
by a scratch. It would require a deeper
wound to reach the dishonor of his be
havior.

ASTHMA.
It is a common error to suppose every disease
which is atiended by oppressed breirhing to be
Asthma or Phthisic. We have shortness of breath
in Consumption and PBeumouis, Just as we do
in Asthma, only that in these diseases it is al
ways present, whereas in Asthma it occurs in
paroxysms.
Asthma is a spasmodic disease of the lunge,
which manifests itself in periodic attacks nr
■fits It comes on suddenly aud is attended
with great difficulty of breatbing while it IssU
but when the attack is over the patient breathes
almost as well as in health.
Nervous. Humid and Dry A6thma are names
given to different forms of this disease. Empny
sema is an other and more inveterate kiua of
Asthma, while Hay Fever or Rose Cold is a pe
culiar variety o Asthma which occurs at a
certain season of the year. Each of these forms
of dissase difl'ers somewhat from the others in
syn ptoms, but practically thesa disiirjeiionsare
of very little value. It does not matter to the
patient which form of Asthma he has, since his
sufferings are the «»me in all. In one case the
expectoration becomes yellow, snd we call it
bronchial. In another it is light and we call It
dry When he coughs vp clear water, with a
white froth on the surface, we say he has
Humoral AKhma. In Nervous Asthma there is
very little expectoration of any kind. Hay
Fever always begins as a crying coid In the
bead or influenza, and a clear water runs from
the nose and the eyes before the Asthma fit
comes on. In Emphysema the expectoration 1b
generally thick, aud continues so in the
interval between the fits, while the shortness
of breath is increased on the slightest exertion
It is a foolish conceit of many pople to
believe that if they have Asthma they cannot
get Consumption. The truth 1b the very op
posite. They are more liable to fall into Con
sumption because they bave Asthma. Another
idea is that Asthma it,clf is not a dangerous
disease, and yet the published bills of mortality
for this city prove to all who read them that
great numbers louo their lives every year by
this fonl destroyer of our homes.
Wit .out courage and perseverance nothing is
curable But with these aided by proper aud
skillful treatmeht, Asthma nan be cured even
after the lungs are extensively diseased.
Persons desiring treatment by this system ot
practice can use the remedies at home as well
as at onr office, and which will cause no incon
venience or hindrance from business whatever
Every case of Asthma is curable. Eastern
visitors and invalids will be wise In being cured
before they return home.
Those wno desire to consult with me lv regard
to their cases had hotter oall at the office for
an examination, but if impossible to visit the
office per, onally can write for list of questions
and circular, both of which will be sent free of
oharge. Address
