It is announced that a reduction of 25 cents per 1,000 feet will be made on gas, commencing March Ist. The City Council will meet this morn ing at 10 o'clock, when several important measures are expected to be brought up. A basket social will he given by La Esperanza Parlor No. 24, N. D. G. W., in the N. 8. G. W. hall, on Spring street, tomorrow evening. Residents on Broadway, formerly Fort' street, request that the Council will order the new name of the street placed on the corner sign boards. The track of the Second-street cable road, between Broadway and Spring, is not in a condition which encourages light vehicles to pass that way. The Mayor's safe stood alone by itself in the corridor of the city hall yester day. City Treasurer Johnson has not yet made np his mind to open bis vault for its entrance. The ordinances covering the sections in the charter preventing the contracting of debts by officers of the city without authorization, will be discussed by the Council today. The new cable of the Broadway and Plaza division was placed in position on Friday night. An idea of the cost of running the cable railways may be gained from the fact that this is the third cable that has been used on this division, the two former being completely worn out before taken up. R. D. List, Notary Public. Legal papers care fully drawn. Removed to 123 W. Second st, Burdick block. Telephone 595. GONE NORTH. Hermann Gottschalk Taken to San Francisco. At 11 o'clock yesterday morning Chief of Police Glass appeared bafore Judge Cheney, ia Department 1 of the Superior Court, with Hermann Gottschalk, the Chicago drummer, who was arrested in response to a telegram from Chief Crowley of San Francisco. The Chief and hia prisoner were accompanied by a dapper little man, who was Detective Coffey, of San Francisco. Immediately on learning of the drummer's arrest, he had been dispatched by Chief Crowley with the warrant charging Gottschalk with having obtained money under false pretenses, issued by Judge Rix. The train on which he came down was sev eral hours late, but he reached the office of Chief Glass just as the latter was starting for Judge Cheney's court-room. He was agreeably surprised to find his man still in custody, as he had heard by telegram of the habeas corpus proceed ings, and feared that owing to the delay to the train on which he traveled, he would be too late to prevent Gottschalk's release, and that he would have to hunt np the versatile commercial traveler. He turned Jim warrant over to Chief Glass, and the latter having produced the document in court, Judge Cheney denied the petition on the writ of habeas corpus. Coffay left for the North on the 1:30 o'clock train. The Delinquent Tax|L.lst. Copies of the County Delinquent Tax List can be obtained st tbe ooeinesß office. Tke Atlantic and Pacific yesterday transferred its westbound trains at Al buquerque over to Darning to have them come to the Coast over the Southern Pacific line. D-finite information could not be obtained with regard to the wash outs which were reported yesterday along the line in Arizona. Later reports say that the damage done was very seri ous in the extent of territory which it covered, and that several days at least will be required to make repairs. S. B. Hvnes, of the Santa Fe, announces in a bulletin that the overland train will leave on time for the East this morning at 10:15 and will run right through with out transfer. Paßeengers from the north were transferred yesterday at Mohave to the Southern Pacific, but no arrangement of a similar sort has been made for to day, from which it is evident that tbe Santa Fe authorities hope to find the road all right by tomorrow. The landslide in the Cajon has been cleared away and a train got through there yesterday afternoon. The South ern California road is now all right and as soon as advices have been received that the Atlantic and Pacific washouts are repaired the Santa Fe will be out of trouble. In Bad Company. On Saturday morning last a youth named Preston was arrested by one of the police detectives and locked up for several hours in the city prison. It is stated that he became infatuated with a woman named IV rl Hinton, who is said to be one of the most notorious members of the demi-mondaine element h/the city, and left his home and parents in order to devote himself to her. His arrest was made at the instance of his father. Undelivered Telegrams. At the Western Uaioa Telegraph office, corner Court and Main streets, February 23,1890: Mrs. Leonora Corney, A. H. DISEASES OF THE Head, Throat, Lungs Successfully treated by M.HILTON WJXLIAJtS, M.D. M. C. P 8. 0., By Hlb Hot Air Medicated InhaHtions anu his COMPOUND OXYGEN TREATMENT. ASTHMA. It is a common error to suppose every disease which is attended by oppressed breathing to be Asthma or Phthisic. We have shortness of breath in Consumption and Pneumonia, just as we do in Asthma, only that in these diseases it is al ways present, whereas in Asthma it occurs in paroxysms. Asthma is a spasmodic disease of the lungs, which manifests itself in periodic attacks or "fits " It comes on suddenly and is attended with great difficulty of breathing while it lasts, but when the attack is over the patient breathes i almost as well as in health. Nervous, Humid and Dry Asthma are names given to different formsof this disease. Emphy sema is an other and more inveterate kiua of ABthms, while Hay Fever or Rose Cold is a pe culiar variety ot Asthma which occurs at a certain season of the year. Each of these forms of disease differs somewhat from the others in sy.i ptoms, but practically these distincdonsare of very little value. It does not matter to the patient which form of Asthma he has, since his sufferings are the same in all. In one case the expectoration becomes yellow, and we call it bronchial. In another it is light and we c-<ll it dry. When he coughs rp clear water, with a white froth on the surface, we say he has Humoral Asthma. In Nervous Asthma there is very little expectoration of any kind. Hsy Fever always begins as a crying coid in the head or influenza, and a clear water runs from the nose and tho eyes before the Asthma fit omes on. In Emphysema the expectoration is generally thick, aud continues so in the interval between the fits, while the shortness of breath is increased ou the slightest exertion. It is a foolish conceit of many penle to believe that if they have Asthma they tanuot get Consumption. The truth is ihovtry op posite. They are more liable to fall intj Con sumption because they hava Asthma Aiother idea is that Asthma itself is not a danrerous disease, and yet the published bills of mortality for this city prove to all who read then that great numbers lose their lives every jear by this foul destroyer of our homes. " WiU out courage and perseverance not line is curable. But with these aided by prop»r and skillful treatmeht, Asthma can be cure! even after the lurjgs are extensively diseased. Persons desiring treatmeut by this system of practice can use the remedies at home is well as at our office, and which will oause no incon venience or hindrance from busineso whoever Every case of Asthma is curable. Eastern visitors and invalids will be wise in beingcured before they return home. Those whodeslreio ooniult with me inr«gar<J to their cases had better call at tho offn* for an examination, but if impo sible to vhit the office per onally can write for list of qutetions and circular, both of which will be sent ree oi Charge.
