Complaints were made at tbe police station yesterday of a somewhat peculiar nature. There have been "Peeping Toma" in the city who have outraged the feelings of respectable women, and ■ there nave been men who had acquired a bestial propensity to seize unprotected females and force unwelcome kisses upon them. Tbe police at various times have had to keep their official optics peeled to suppress these bizarre attempts ol mentally deformed individuals. The ease reported yesterday furnishes a new variation of the old idea which a certain class of men have of forcing their attention upon women. In tho southwestern part of the oity there are several elegant residences aligned upon Hill street, where the properly owners have homes. In which they employ numerous servants. Among them are quite a number of young women, Borne of them decidedly pretty. For some time past there has been an ; evident and pronounced disinclination on tbe part of some of these domestics to leave their homes at night, and little by little it leaked Out that they have been subjected to the unwelcome perse cutions of a mysterious fellow, who has adopted a terrifying sort of method to prosecute his evening diversions. More than one girl has been accosted when going out by the back door after dusk by a man who wore a veil oyer his faoe. He would attempt to engage in conver eation, and when repulsed would as sume a threatening attitude, which would result in a precipitate retreat on the part of the girt to the safety of the house. Tho fellow seems to have con fined himeelf to the baok doors of the residences in question, and he has malk himself so felt that the maid servants on South Hill street have become fright ened beyond expression. The fellow ia always the same, wearing an ordinary suit of clothes and appearing undis guised in all respects, Bavothat he wears a heavy veil, which covers his entire head and prevents recognition. The police authorities have been no tified, aud if the mysterious persecutor cf servant girls shows up in his old haunts he will be yanked in, veil andall. An Important IHfXerencs).
