Things That Residents as Well St Tourists Should See. A Unique Entertainment Yeaterday Af forded by the Jn.llnn Torttlla- Mjtheri.—Some of the Many Thing* to 11., Seen. The California Mission association ex hibit, in the Potomac block, on Broad way, near Second street, was largely j attended yeateiday afternoon and last I evening. One of the most uuique and pictur esque exhibita is the modal of the San Luis Rey mission, which was made by Antonio F. and Scfiora Coronel. It is a masterpiece of skill and art, and ia a miniature picture of one of the moat imposing ruins in the new world. The Indian women at tracted greit attention, especially from the touriats. The tortilla making afford ed much amusement to the tenderfeet, who looked upon this seemingly strange proceeding as ii it were a revelation. The Indian women were nat urally timid in the presence of so many palefacea, and seemed averse to giving an exhibition of their terpsi cborean abilities. Finally Mrs. Coronel persuaded them to give a sample of what they called a dance, and it ailbrded much amusement even to the Los An- geltfios, who have not eeen everything in their own land of wonders. After the dance Mr. W. B. Wilson photographed them in a group in the act of making tortillas The Indian women were well pleased with the idea, and each tried to look her best. In Mr. Campbell's collection is a beau tiful basket made by the Tulare Indians, of fine Tulare grnen interwoven with the bright and yellow plumage of birda. It is one of tbo daintiest little ornaments imaginable. Another cnriosity is a wooden stirrup used by the vaqueros, which protected the foot of the rider from the cactus. He exhibits a fine assortment of Tulare basket-work —the Tulare grasses being especially adapted for the making- of pretty baskets, more so than those of any other locality in California. A rather uninviting novelty is a pair of handcuffs made undor direction of Don Antonio F. Coronel, when he was alcalde of the pueblo of Los Angelea. These are the first handcuff's ever seen in Los Angeles. The don also has iv the collection a bolt from the door of the room in which Father Jnnipero Serra died, a much treasured relic; also many church relics and implements of Indian warfare. The Navaji blanketa ai?:o attract a great deal of attention. .Mr. W. H. Wilson gave another steri opticon exhibition of California misnion buildings; Mias Annie O. Murphy lec tured. Indian Agent H. N. Rust gave an in teresting talk on the medicine men of California, and .Mr. Langlc, gave a his torical sketch of Paia mission. The exhibit will continue thia after noon and evening. In the afternoon, Don Antonio F. Coronel wilt give a very interesting description of life ia the missions ; the Indian women will make tortillas for the edification of the curious aud give a danee —a cross between a reel and the lancer's quadrille. There will also be given a few Spanish songs of the olden time. The admission ia only 25 cente. The money thus derived ia to be devoted to the preservation of the mission build ings from further ruin. The objact of thie society iB laudable and ehould meet with tho hearty co-operation of the gen eral public, not only as a matter of pride, but in the instereat of future generations. Troop 9of Americana, with little ap preciation aud leee patriotism, flock over to Earope every yeir, spending large amounts of money, to view a few ruined caaties and alleged mountains and objects of nature, w nen at our very, doors we have the grandest objects of' nature, and a more variad assortment of curioaitiea of every kind and degree than ia found in the remainder of the three quarters of the world combined. Tbe basociation is increasing in mem bership, and aa the admission fee ia only $1 it ia hoped that the public, especially thoae of this state, will assist this wor thy enterprise by contributing their mite. As an earnest of this aaaociation and ita good endeavor, it ia only neceaßaryto name the executivo committee, as fol lows : Tessa L. Kelso, chairman; Rev. Fath er Adam, V. G.j Don A. F. Coronel, Judge R. Egan, C. P. Dorland, S. P, Hunt, Dr. M. H. Alter, J. T. Bertand, Mre. Jeanne C. Carr, Mrs. A. F. Cor onel, Mre. A. S. Wiug, Mre. M.E Stil eon, Mibb Anna C. Murphy, H. 1).
