IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA PASADENA. A Serious Accident at Hotel Green. BnCltl Nnri'i'Hsi-. Pasaiifna, Jan. 12.—Another serious accident occurred tn the construction of the Hotel Green this afternoon. A plasterer by the name of C. D. Cairnes fell from a scaffold on the northwest corner of the building a distance of about 40 feet to the ground. The man with a companion was at work plastering the outside of the building when the Accident occurred, and in moving about jumped a short distance from the frame work to tlio platform. The boards must have been" very insecurely nailed as theygave way throw lng'hlm to the ground. lie fell upon his head and shoulders and was % picked up almost senseless. The service l ' of r Dr. Viall were called in and the man put in as comfortable shape as possible for removal to his home on Mary street. It is not known just how baaiv he was injured although no bones were broken, and it is hoped there were no in ternal Injuries. The fall was in a bad place, the mau striking on a bucket and the side of Ihe curb. Another accident very similar to this oc curred when the brick work was under way. A mason fell from tbe northeast corner of tbe building and was seriously injured. The acci dent today was wholly caused by the flimsy manner In which the stag! ng was constructed, Had the accident occurred a story or two further up, nothing could have saved the man from instant death. COMPANY B CELEBRATES. Company B, N. G. C., celebrated its fourth anniversary this evening at the armory, in Morgan block. About 150 invitations were Issued to friends of the company, which were generally responded to. '1 bis. together with the members of tho company, swelled tbe total attendance to the neighborhood of 200 ladies and gentlemen. No formal programme was carried out, but a competitive drill by the members of the company was followed by dancing, and late in tbe evening an elegant banquet was served. Music was furnished by Rrockway's orchestra, to the tuneful chimes of which the young people "chased the gulden hours with flying feet" till a late hour. The affair was a success in every way, and the guests fully appreciated the open hospi tality of Mr. Hays, who did everything pos sible to make the evening a delightful one. Company B, in celebrating its fourth birth day, can look back upon a record for that length of time of which 'ts members have much reason to be proud. The officers at present are Capt. P. J. Cook. First Lieut. F. McGowan. Second Lieut. Robt. ( ollingwood, jr., who are deserving of much credit, as are their predecessors, for the excellent training which the members have received, both iv drill and target practice. THE OHD FEU.OWS ENTERTAIN. In response to invitations from the Odd Fel lows and hebekah lodges of this city, a large number of members and friends gathered at their hall, corner Fair Oaks avenue and Day ton street, this evening, to witness the open Installation of officers of both the orders. A short musical and literary programme was given after the business of the evening was over, followed by several speeches. Among those who made remarks were Rev. E. L. Con ger, Rev. Florence Kollock and Judge Utley. Excellent music was furnished at frequent intervals throughout the evening by Shaw's orchestra. The ladies of the Rebekah lodge presented Miss Kollock with fin elegant boquet of carna nation pinks at the close of her remarks. The musical and literary programme was well arranged and delivered. AN IMPORTANT MEETING. The mass meeting of citizens, under the auspice , of the board of trade to be held in the Woostcr tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock, should be well attended, as two matters of groAt importance are to come up. The first and most important is the tramp problem, wbich is a big one, and if settled satisfactorily will take some hard thinking and work as well. The town has several hundred uneinploved men wandering about in it, and something must be done with them, unless we want them to turn into highwaymen, as some have evi dently done already. * A report will also be received from the com mittee ou the midwinter lair, and several mem bers of the general committee will be present to discuss the matter with our citizens. ANOTHER ACCIDENT. E. C. Upton, one of the employees at Mor gan's livery stable, was unfortunate enough to fall while attempting to alight from a horse iv the stable this afternoon and fracture his wrist. The services of Dr. McAllister were called upon, and the injured limb taken care of. No serious results will follow, but it will be some time before the hand can be used. NOTES. The Valley Hunt club holds a picnic tomor row iv the mountains. » The fire company was called out last even ing for another brush tire. Ihe Pasadena Orange Growers' association is making preparations for handling the pres ent crop of oranges. It is expected to com mence shipping in a week or ten days, and a circular has been issued asking growers to leave estimates at t he office of the association of the amount and kind of fruit they have. A conference between tin; council and com missioners on the Raymond avenue widening ami De Lacy street extension was held yester day. The matter of adjusting damages and low ing assessments is no easy one, and the gentle men will earn all they get for it. SANTA ANA. Local News Notes — Matters from Anaheim. There is no doubt that they Will build a branch to the sugar-house as soon as operations on the buildings begin. The trustees of Centralla srhool district have had an annex made to the main building to meet the growing demands oi the Bchool. It is octagon in shape, similar to the main building, and the construction and linlsh reflects great credit to the taste of the trustees. An enthusiastic correspondent sends in the following anent. Last Sunday as one of Henry Hetcbrink'a younger sons waa riding in a wagon, holding a 22-calibcr rifle under hia arm, the weapon was accidentally discharged, the ball penetrating his left arm and ranging upward lodged in the fleshy part of the arm, near the elbow. Dr, Bullard was summoned and after an examina tion located the bullet, but it not being a dan gerous wound decided not to remove it at present. Victor Montgomery, esq., ot Santa Ana, who is understood to carry a large slice of the county Democracy around in hisppockett t was over to see us on Sunday. M., Santa Ana," atamped on his back—without which his name is prac tically mud. SANTA MONICA. The New Bath Houses Under Way —Local News. Santa Monica, Jan. 12.—The pleasant weather hasevldently set in for a good seige of it and j the eastern pilgrims are becoming as plentiful as the delicious mushrooms one finds in the adjacent fields. WHAT HOES IT MEAN. While the gang of men were at work tearing down, etc., the old buildings on North beach on Thursday afternoon late a human skull was found buried in a gunny sack. Where it came from or how it came to be buried in that out of the way place beside the sea is beyond conjec ture. On the left slue of the temple there is a hole whioh looks as if it might havo been done by a hammer or some instrument of like nature. Tne skull, which is in the possesion of Vie Ifopf, son of Mr. Ilopf of the tirm of Kckert & Hopf of tho Pavilion here, has evidently lain there for some time, all flesh, etc., having dis appeared. All the circumstances point to a murder at some other point in the past and the skull hav ing been brought here for burial. IN ME MORI AM. Miss Edith Robertson, the youngest daughter of Patrick Robertson of this place, died sud denly on Thursday, at the residence of Col* Daniel Freeman, Inglewood, where she was visiting. Miss Robertson's sudden demise, from congestion of the brain, was a great shock to her many friends who did not know she was ill. She was in her nineteenth year. The circle of friends and acquaintances of the de ceased was a large one, every one loving her for her many beautiful traits of character, and will cherish her memory. The funeral takes place today from St. John's Episcopal church. NORTH BEACH. The demolition of the old buildings, etc., of the old bath house is being pushed to make way for tne new, and those who delight in tho luxury of the hot baths had better avail them selves of the present opportunity, as very shortly the building in which they are given v ill have to be torn down, and while the new bathing establishment is being built they will be deprived of the luxury. Egan caught fire day before yesterday, the heat beneath the tiling becoming so intense that the woodwork, lower joists, etc. beneath commenced to burn; but lortunately it was before night, and by tearing up the cement and till g, aud turning the hose on, it was soon extin uished, with but slight damage.
