PRESIDENT HUNTINGTON I THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC MAGNATE ARRIVES FROM THE EAST. He Has a Large Party With Him Tin, Trip From the Kast— He Will Leave for the North Today. C. P. Huntington, president of the Southern Pacific railroad, reached the city yesterday on his annual tour of in spection of tbe company's lines. He ia accompanied by a party to tbe number | of about a dozen. They are in a train of three special cars and one baggage car. When the parly left New York it was in Mr. Huntington's car and was compoeed of tha following: Mr. and Mrs. Huntington, Prince and Princess Hatzfeldt, Mice Caroline Huntington, niece of tbe president, Miss C. M. Camp bell and G. E. Miles. Tbey went to New Orleans via the Richmond aud Danville route. At tbe Crescent city they were joined by A. N. Towne, sec ond vice president and general man ager; H. E. Harrington, first assistant i to the president, and B. A. Worthing ton. From New Orleans they came west as a special train, riding at moder ate epeed and in the daytime, never traveling at night. The various officers of the road joined them from time to time and traveled to points along the division. President Hutchinson of Morgan's Louisiana and Texas Railroad and Steamship company, J. Kruttachnitt, general manager of the Atlantic system, and Randolph Natilli, identified with the company at New Orleans, accom panied tbe party to points in Texas. Tbey left New Orleans on February 12 and went to Houston and Corpus Cbrißti on the Gulf. From those places they traveled via the Aransas Pass route to San Antonio, stopping west of the latter place to inspect the recently completed steel cantilever bridge over the Pecos canon. This bridge is 2200 feet long and tbe track is 335 feet above tbe water. It ia the highest bridge of tbe kind in the world, save one. From there they came on to El Paso, where they stopped over night. At Murir.ooa the party took the Maricopa and Phoenix railroad to Phoenix, where they remained for the night. The bal ance of the run to this city was un eventful, the party reaching here early yesterday morning, having stopped at Colton for the nigbt. Mr. Huntington was shown about the city in the morning, and called at tbe Westminster hotel upon Mr. Franklin Dean, a New York capitalist who is said to represent tbe Rothschilds' stock in the Southern Pacific railroad systems. In the afternoon tbe party, in com pany with J. M. Crawley and represen tatives from the chamber of commerce, visited Port Loa Angeles and inspected the company's mammoth wharf. Last night Mr. Huntington visited Pasadena. They leave tbis morning at 7 o'clock for Burbank, from where they will probably visit tbe branch line to Chats worth Park. Illinois hall was handsomely decor ated last evening with the emblems and banners of the Knights of Pythiaa. The occasion was the celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of the founding of the order. Tho hall was crowded with knights and invited guests, the turnout being one of the largest in the history of the fraternal organizations of this city. A literary and musical programme waa first presented, opening with a abort and appropriate address by Past Chan cellor H. B, Belt. Vocal solos were rendered by Miss Antonie Greve and I Messrs. S. F. Brandt and W. R. Miller. Each received an encore, and their efforts were evidently warmly appreciated. Mr. T. H.
