Morrison, at Spring and Court streets, caught fire at 7 o'clock laet night, and in his endeavors to save tbe contents Morrison was severely burned about tbo bands and face. William Griffin, who resides in the country, fell from hie wagon on Alameda street yesterday afternoon and brake an arm. He waa treated by Police Surgeon Bryant at the receiving hospital and later sent to his home. An electrio car waß derailed at the corner of Broadway and Eighth street at 8:30 last night. Nobody waa hurt and no damage was done beyond stop ping the running of care until 15 or 20 trains had accumulated at that point. The efforts on the part uf the unions and labor orders of thia county to eatab lish a joint free reading and reception room have not abated. By this ingenious cloak of secrecy the city officials obviated the necessity of going on record, aad when the new ord inance is born tbey can all lift up their bands and cry with pious unction to the Merchants' association and the tax payers in general: "Our bands are clean. We have had naught to do with risking these changes in the license ordinance." While tbe star chamber session was in progress, Councilman Tom Strohm put in an appearance in tbe ante-room. Mr. Wirsching moved that a commu nication he sent to the council with re gard to tbe importance of changing the names ot etreeta bearing tbe same name, on account of the confneion arising when tire alarms are telephoned ia to head quarters. A good deal of delay wae caused by reason of the confusion occasioned by the alarm on Tuesday from State street owing to there being two thoroughfares in the city of that name. The board then adjourned and tbe mayor called the members into his pri vate office, where a cenenltatien was held behind ciosed doors. May Sth. on the subject of Oity Parks. Fred L. Baker and D. F. Donegan were appointed a committee to escort Mr. Hazard to the ball. Extra ohairs will be provided so as to fill the seating capacity of the building, and all residents of the district are invited to be present. The committee on streets reported that Mrs. Banning is the only protrsl ant ia the matter of extension of Caste lar street to Psllevue avenue, and that she will be given a beating before the city council next Monday. The committee on parks reported fa vorable progress in tbe matter of the en largement of Elysian park and piping water to Echo park, 'lhe com mittee on health and sanitation reported the action of the city council in the matter of insufficient water for flush tanks in tbe hill district. The need of an electric light at the interaection of Bellevue and Beaudry avenues was diecuss&d, and the commit tee on light and water requested to co operate with Councilman lunea in urg ing the city council to have one placed tbere. The committee on proposed widening and extension of band street, west of Pearl street, to mergo in Bellevue avenue at Edgeware road, asked fur the ap pointment of eight more to tho commit tee, making a total of 12, in order that a thoroa B .i canvass of the district, also piauß and r ecificatione, may he made. The committee on revision of the city charter made a Quel report, which was adopted, and the committee instructed to present the same to the courc'l com mittee as the recommendation of the Northwest Lob Angelea Improvement association, and confer with that com mittee regarding the proposed amend ments. Tbe committee on streets and bat on parks and boulevards were requested to draft a resolution on behalf of tde asso ciation, urging the adoption of the Lake Shore avenue route for the proposed boulevard to Pasadena.
