Pasadena, July 9. — Tho ragular weekly rueetina of tbe council was held this afternoon, ull members present but Mr. Lokone, with Judge Wood ia tbe chair. All bills filed to date were re ferred to committee. The matter of Terminal rates came np and the following rosoiution was intro duced and pasaed by a lull vote: Be it Kesolved, That whereas by tho terms of ordinance No. 155, itrant iug a franchise to the Los Aui;eleo Term inal company, tha ruund trip rate of fare between Pasadena and Los AiiKeies is fixed at gfi cents, aud Whereas, By resolution Mo. 404 this boerd did en the 4th day of AtiKuet. 1593, permit said company to charge 115 cants fir the round trip fare until the Ist day of July, 181)4; and Whereas, Said time has expired and the attention ol said company haßjbeeu called to the fact that saia compuuy etill continues to charge said increased fare, now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the city attorney be and be ls hereby instructed to notify said company to im mediately discontinue) said increased charge and to restore tDe 26-cent rate, and upon failure »o to do said attorney ib hereby authorized to take such steps as will in hi 9 judgment compel such company to restore the old rates of fare. The city attorney reported recom mending that cortain tax ealuß from SU to 89 be canceled, which was adopted. He also recommended that a committee be appointed to inspect tbe charters of other cities, with a view of assisting in the drawing ud of the contemplated new charter. Both recommendations were adopted and a committee appointed, consisting of W. E. Arthur, Judge Weed and Mr. Hamilton. An ordinance calling for a special city election on tne 18th day of August waa declared read for the first time. The election is for the purpose of electing a board of 15 fresholdera who shall have been at least five years qualified electors ol the city, whose duty it Bbili be within 90 daya after election to prepare a char ter for the city nutter the recent amend ment to tbe state law, giving citiea of 3500 the right to special criartere. Tbe voting places are designated as follows: Precinct No. I—P. L., L, & W. Co. office. Precinct No. 2 —North Fair Oaks, op posite Mary street. Precinct No. 3 —Recorder's court room. Precinct No. 4—No. 60 West Colorado street. Precinct No. s—Nos. 113 and 115 South Fair Oaks. Freoinct No. 6—Noe. 168 and 170 East Colorado Rt.reftt. The Times is evidently feeling very sore over tho way it is tailing the pro cession in this city, which it has so long considered its own personal property, with a "no trespassing"sign at the gate. In this morning's edition tho local corre spondent says: "The attempt of a certain Pasadena citizen of wall known anarchistic views and often declared hostility to tbe law, to organize a boycott against the Times here was abortive, though the effort waa ably assisted by local agents of another Los Angeles paper. The citizens of Pasadena cannot be misled by ono whose antipathy to tbo law is so well known and who might be an avowed anarchist but for the fact that be aspires to be a capitalist. The young men who carry and sell the Times, because they make money for thenißalves by so doing, could not be fooled into working against their own interest, and they sensibly gave the lAUgh to the would-be boycatter. Tbe Times still leads in Pasadena." The above is certainly an amusing combination and shows to what ex tremities the paper haa been driven by loss of subscribers and street sales. If the Times man has really discovered euch a dangerous individual iv our com munity he should by all means point him out to tho gapiug crowds and not allow his identity to be lost through any falße modesty. Meanwhile the Herald continues to add to its subscription list at a rapid rate, and the war goes on. ROBBED AND SHOT. A vicious case of shooting and robbery which occurred Saturday evening has just come to light through the police. The unfortunate victim was a China man named Wing Lee, who has been in the laundry business in this city for several years and is well known. Wing was walking along on South Fair Oaks avenue, near California street, about 11:30, when he was suddenly confronted by a man with a big revolver, who de manded his money. Wing, however, waß not fast enough in hia movßmants to suit tbo highwayman, who proceeded to fire, according to the Chinaman's story. The ball struck his leg above the knee, inflicting a aeriouß wound and bringing the Chinaman to the ground, after which the follow proceeded to go through his victim, only getting $5.50. He then made off, leaving the wounded Chinaman on the walk, where he was fonnd and taken to Chinatown. Dr. McAllister was called in and dressed his wound, wbich waa very painful, but not serious. The marshal ia looking into tbe case. NEXT YEAR'S TEACHERS.
