Catharine of Veterana Ever Seen in Southern California—Point! About thft Camp and tlie Programme. The encampment of vaterans which comnieiicas next Monday at Santo Monica promises to exceed in size and number anything of ita kind ever held on the Pacific coast. Cp to date Com mander Knts has received applications for upwards ol two hundred tents, be sides space for one hundred and thirty private tents. This will tax Seventh street park in Santa Monica to its ut most capacity. The committee on tenta •ad grounds visited Santa Monica yes terday und extended th 3 camp ground limits beyond the [.ark, laying out new streets iv order to meet the increasing demand for tent space. Details of men are now at work on the ground, cleaning up and preparing it for occupancy. On Thursday, Capt. J. B. SuintnonH, the quartermaster, accom panied by Col. Brooker, will take to Santa Monica 250 tents rented from the Los Angeles Tont and Awning company, aud proceed to put them up according to the plan adopted and heretofore de scribe.l in these columns. At tbe same time Capt. Frank Hobart will bring oue carload of tents from Ventura, which includes the •'Big" tent and other head quarters' tents, and put them up iv the place unsigned them. Ou Friday, Commander Kutz with Adjutant Brady will proceed to the cauip and establish headquarters. From that data all communications ebould be addressed to the commander at Santa Monica. The Southern Pacific and Southern California railway companies will place on sale ticse'.s to the encampment ou inly 22d, under tha following rules: From Los Angeles aud intermediate stations regular round trip tickets will be sold. The citizens ol Santa Monica are already preparing \to receive the veterans in a royal man ' ncr, and are determined that nothing : Bhall bs ieft undone on their part to make the encampment a succe.'s. The I reports from the most distant points in the district are of the most encouraging character, autl thia is especially so from Ventura, Santa Paula, San Bernardino, Kedlands, Riverside, Escondido and San Diego, from which points a muuh larger number will be present than baa ever vieited any prior encampment. The Woman's Relief corps are es pecially active, and to tbeir efforts is due in a great measure the sucoess of the coming encampment. Mra. Maud Brooker. president, assisted by Mrs. Kate Munson, treaeurer, Mrs. Bird Thomas, secretary, and an efficient staff of oflicera, is untiring in her efforts to assist tbe veterans. The ladies of the |G. A. R. are also doing much in tbe j came direction, and the old boya feel grateful to both of these associations for the assistance tbey have co cheerfully furnished. The Board or Ednmtton Act on a Plan / of Ventilation. The board of education met lastnight, I with President Pepper in the chair, to ■ consider plana for the heating and ven tilation cf the high school. A report was submitted by Superin tendent of Buildings Eisan on the differ ent plans. After reviewing the dilfer | ent plans Bubmittsd, Mr. Eisen stated i as follows: j ''Personally my own choice, consider ing the location of the building, tho dis- I tributiou of the various apartments, the j construction oi supports, and this cxi- J gonciea of thia climate, aud ol the occu -1 pancy of the building, would be to aug : ment the temperature of tbe roome j when required by a hot water appaia : tue, and would lay particular stress upon j the withdrawal of the foul air to a re | ceiving chamber in the apex of the roof, 1 the air of which would be superheated i by solar rays in summer, and by coilß in the winter, and the discharge cf air through ventilating cowls aided by the operationa of a vacuum fan forming part of tbe cowl, and run by tin electric mo tor, tbe fan, cowl and motor inclosed within a non sound conducting cham ber. At the same lime tho factors of price and caef of operation of the more advanced methods would possibly influ -1 ence my decision." Mr. Stein stated that he would like to know definitely juat what plan Mr. Eisen favored. He wae satisfied that everyone who had looked into the mat ter was satisfied as to the necessity of a perfect system of ventilation and heat ing. Mr. Patty raised the question that the important question was that of ventila tion; it was easy to heat the building but the best plan of ventilation should be adopted. There waa come discussion as to the number of heat units that could be ob tained from a pound of coal and then the repreaentativee of the different con cerns bidding ou the contract were heard. Mr. Patty moved that the Wyman system with the double exhaust with the boilers outside of the building be adopted. A vote was taken and the Wyman plan waa adopted by ayss 4, noee 3; and tbe children of the high school will not be frozen to death next winter. COURT NOTES. Items Picked tip In Various Tribunals.
