A PECULIAR CASE. Something- Abnnt the Old tw*n Who At tempted Suicide. Prof. E. Sweeney, the old man who attempted suicide Saturday night nnder a tree on tbe I'la. a, ie still alive and there are good prospects of bis recovery. The old man, it eeems, is without moans or a home. Nearly a month ago he came to the Buss house and asked for a night's lodging and during the evening was beard Bobbing in his room. The landlady at the Kuas asked what bis trouble waa and he launched out in a very impossible story about having been engaged to a young, handsome and wealthy girl wbo had been iuduced by meddlesome relatives to refuse him at the last minute. He threatened then to commit suicide, but went away and did not return until last Thursday night. Then be came back, borrowed a quarter aud secured a night's lodging and was rot bsard of again until tbe officer found him with the knife wound in his arm. A peculiar circumstanoe connected with tbe atlair was tbe discovery of a bandage hound around his arm above the wound which wae evidently put on after tbe wound was inflicted nnd which waa applied with scientific accuracy. Tho old man did not state his place of residence when he registeted at the Kuss, and nothing is known of his identity. Avoiding Fain aud Peril.
